Avon, Ohio is a small town located in the southwestern corner of Lake Erie. The population was 9,493 at the 2010 census. Avon is home to the United States Optical Collection (USOC), which contains more than 1 million items from around the world including glass and optical equipment dating back to 1839. A large part of USOC's history can be found in Avon's Optical Shop, founded in 1879 by Wm. Leland Stanford Jr.. The shop was eventually renamed the Stanford Trust Company after its founders purchased land from Mr. and Mrs. Stanford for their storeroom and workshop on Elm Street. In 1945, USOC moved into its current building on Ewing Avenue which had been built as a library for Stroudsburg Area Schools. Today, USOC houses both an exhibition hall and research lab with more than 150 exhibitors from all over the world who come to discuss topics related to optics and light technology. The history of avon opticians can also be found at two other locations: one on High Street in downtown Avon and another at 15th & Clinton Streets in Clinton Township which has been leased since 1944 by American Optometric Association Incorporated (AOA). There are currently three AOA stores located around the United States - one each in Tucson AZ; Miami FL; and Aberdeen MD - making it one of the largest optometric organizations in North America!

Avon, Ohio is a small town in Northwest Ohio. The population was 2,865 at the 2000 census. It is located on the border of Westmoreland and Butler counties. The first Europeans to visit what is now Avon were French traders in the early 17th century. They named it after their captain, Jean-Baptiste de la Salle, who explored the region in 1669-1670. In 1792, George Washington and his army invaded Westmoreland County and burned most of the village of Dennison before retreating back to Philadelphia. In 1801, James Kapp bought land on which he built a sawmill that became one of the largest employers in Avon Township. One hundred years later, Kapp's son developed this mill into another major employer with a production capacity of 1 million pounds (454 metric tons) per year. This mill remains an important part of local economy to this day and employs approximately 350 people today; including 65% women employed as workers in various capacities inside or outside the mills themselves! During World War II, many soldiers from nearby Butler barracks were housed here while they served out their military service; these barracks are now known as Avon Park Elementary School District No. 4 Campus Site No. 307.- currently home to over 700 students grades 6-12 from all surrounding communities! A number of small businesses have also been established around town since its establishment such as: White Horse Tavern (operated by Carlsbad Caverns State Park), Historic Millinery & Jewelry store (originally operated by Mrsgrace Benedict), General Store (owned and operated by Rufus Denny), Save Our Heritage Bookstore - previously used as a post office for many years until it closed down due to lack of interest (now operates as an art gallery/shop). Avon has always been known for its delicious apples! Local growers offer everything from tart granny smiths to sweet pears; there is something for everyone! This technology allowed for photographers to create high-resolution prints without having to resort to large format printing methods like lithography or photoengraving
