Everytown for Gun Safety is a movement started in 2014 to stop gun violence. Everytown focuses on preventing mass shootings, which are events where four or more people are shot and killed. The town was named after Sir George Washington's home town of Alexandria on Long Island, New York. In 1801, General Anthony Wayne founded what became Avon Township and later Medina County according to an ordinance passed in 1802 by John Denny, one of America's first elected officials from a counties newly organized from part of Pennsylvania. Avon was incorporated as a village on November 6, 1825 from parts of Copley Township (now Defiance) and Monroeville Township (now Lewisburg). On July 14, 1850, it merged with the neighboring townships of Bellefontaine to form what is now Medina County; this merger resulted from a request by then-County Treasurer James Kapp to have all lands within his jurisdiction annexed into Medina County as part of his efforts to improve economic development throughout the region. The City Council has set aside land for growth near its downtown core since its incorporation in 1850; these areas now make up muchof northwest Cleveland's commercial district and are home to many big-name businesses such as JCPenney and Sears Roebuck & Co.. The city has grown rapidly since 1990 when it had just over 100 residents; today it has more than 2,000 residents inside its limits - making it one of Cleveland’s fastest-growing communities which reports seeing about 10% annual growth rate between 2000 and 2010 alone!
