Avon is home to one of the largest concentration of Amish people in North America and also has a large number of German immigrants. The economy is based largely on agriculture and manufacturing. Avon was founded by George Washington Carver in 1887 as a small farmstead near Dayton, Ohio. Carver became known for his work on diets for school children and other charitable endeavors. In 1937, Carver's grandson David moved the family to their current location in Avon after purchasing an old farmstead from his father-in-law. David developed many local businesses such as Avon Tire & Rubber Company, which still produces tires today, and Old Fashioned Furniture Company which specializes in period furniture. The first post office opened in 1892; it closed due to lack of mail volume in 1920. The present day post office opened on September 15th, 1922 with mail service starting on October 1st; this was following a request from then-Governor John Anderson who desired to ensure that all citizens had access to essential government services without having to travel far away each time they needed them! Today the Avon Chamber of Commerce offers online banking through PayPal so residents can easily access their account when needed! A few industries that have thrived over the years in Avon are agriculture (livestock production) and manufacturing (tire industry). Avon is a city in Clark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,521 at the 2010 census. Its post office is Avon. The first settler in what would become Avon Township was John Morse in 1814. By 1835 the township had a population of six hundred and thirty-one persons. In 1841, the township had a population of one thousand three hundred and ninety-six; by 1850 it had increased to two thousand four hundred and eighty-eight people. The increase was due to land purchases by General Washington Lewis during the Mexican–American War and numerous emigration from Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland and other states that took up land grants near the new townsite. In 1875 Avon consisted of twenty blocks; it grew to forty blocks by 1907 when it became an independent city with its own police department and fire department. In 1917, Avon became part of the Cleveland metropolitan area through annexation by Cleveland Heights along with other municipalities in that area such as Euclid Heights (1917), Maywood (1920), Quicken Loans Arena (1993) and University Circle (2000). In 1937 both Akron Municipal Airport (now Akron Love Field) serving Independence Township north of Cleveland and Ashtabula Municipal Airport were opened within five miles of each other across town in what would be known as "the triangle". This airport would eventually become Eastern Air Lines' main hub for general aviation operations out of Greater Cleveland until it closed circa 1990s when all commercial flights moved to CLEARWay Tower adjacent to IKEA on Sawmill Road northwest of downtown Akron while shuttle service continued providing passenger transportation between CLEARway Tower/IKEA/asheville airport & downtown Akron using small planes running aroundclockwise every 30 minutes or so depending on traffic conditions between those airports only
Avon is a village in and the county seat of Crawford County, Ohio, United States. The population was 8,811 at the 2010 census. It has been since 1828 the home to the Avon Glass Company.
