The history of bipods can be traced back to the early days of Avon, Ohio. The first mention of bipods was in a journal from 1814. At that time, there were only two families living in Avon and they were the Beavers and the Wolves. The Beavers were farmers who grew maize and beans. They used a tripod to pick up seedlings from the ground. The Wolves were hunters who collected game from the surrounding area. One day, when they were out gathering food, they found some bipods lying on the ground. They ate them and then made a model of one using pieces of wood that they had scavenged from other people's houses. Later on, in 1827, an American named John Smeaton started farming in what is now known as Nordhausen Township. He built a cabin near where he lived and called his land “Bipod” after one of his farm animals. In 1881, German immigrant Wilhelm König moved to Avon and began raising chickens on his property too. He also bought some pieces of land around Nordhausen Township and called his land “Bipod” too because he had similar crops grown there already (chicken). In 1912, William Hinchey bought part of König's land and built his own house at 6031 E State Rd., which is still standing today (Hinchey House). During World War I, Bipod became used as an army supply depot due to its close proximity to military bases in nearby Akron and Canton communities. After the war ended, many people left Avon for various reasons but Bipod continued to operate until it closed its doors in 1978!

Avon, Ohio is a town in and the county seat of Fayette County, Ohio, United States. The population was 21,915 at the 2010 census. The Avon Historic District was named for Avon, England in 1847. It contains 8 buildings on 5 acres (2 ha). Avon's history dates back to 1792 when French colonists founded the community of North Bend on what is now the south side of Interstate 275. In 1845, as part of a wagon route from Cincinnati to Cleveland, settlers passing through Avon stopped at what is now State Route 422 and built their first cabin here. The community grew rapidly during the 1840s due to its natural resources: copperpits and lead mines were discovered in nearby Entity Township and production increased until 1860 when a local mill closed because of competition from mills in nearby Youngstown and Dayton. In 1847, after passage of the Mexican–American Warclosure Act that confiscated all land east of Fort Wayne across ten counties including Fayette County – including most of what would become Avon – Englishman John Wilkinson purchased 1/4 mile (0.6 km) east of present-day State Route 422 from James Whitehead for $5 (). He named his new settlement "Avon" after his home town in England where he had settled prior to American independence in 1776. With this purchase Wilkinson began construction on several homes which still stand today within present-day Avon limits; he also erected a log courthouse and jail which served as both government headquarters and courtrooms until 1915 when it burned down. The post office at "Avon" was established on July 15, 1850, by order of Governor Nicholas Vandal () with Simeone Asbill serving as first postmaster. By 1870 there were twenty-six residents living at "Avon". Soon after another post office called "Sheridan" was established about two miles southeast along SR 422 but it too failed to take hold due to lack thereof citizens or mail service from "Avon". In 1875 an addition called "Walsh", located just northwest of current day State Route 422 between Beaver Creek Road (now US 25) and SR 613 (), became operational with Wm Haddon listed as Postmaster until 1898 when he resigned citing health reasons (). In 1899 avonsite George Biddle established an ice cream parlor there which continued into operation through 1945 despite changes in postal service regulations that made such businesses unenforceable ().
