Other significant manufacturers from Avon include Midland Machine & Tool Co., which produced tools and machinery; Armstrong Manufacturing Company, which made radios and televisions; as well as JBL Corporation's headquarters until its move to White Lake Township in 2006.

In 1851, John Crouch founded Crouch & Company grocery stores in Avon and neighboring townships; these stores became one of the largest grocery chains in America and remain so today. By 1870, there were four churches serving Avon with total membership over 2,000 people; three of these churches still exist today! In 1875–76, local farmers attempted to bring water from Lake Erie to their homes through canals they dug around their properties but failed because no one wanted to pay for this service! One man who succeeded was George Stephenson who donated $10K towards this project which became known as "The Great Western Canals." This event helped spur development aroundavontownlandandin1887thetown got its name change from "Avon" to "Ohio's Watertown!"
