Avon Lake is a small town in southeastern Ohio, about 25 miles southwest of Cleveland. It was founded in 1822 by General David W. Avon and his wife, Lucy Woodruff, on the east bank of the Olney River. The name is derived from an Indian word meaning "place where two rivers join."
