Fenton's skills as a marksman quickly earned him respect among his peers, and by 1800 he had become established as one of Ohio's most accomplished riflemen. He continued to hit targets with relative ease until 1810 when conditions changed dramatically. That year, war hysteria reached its peak across Europe, and news reports began circulating fearfully about cannonballed bodies washing up on shorelines all over Europe. Suddenly there was an overwhelming demand for new guns and ammunition, which led to increased competition for scarce resources betweenhunters and farmers alike. This particular situation created perfect conditions for John Fenton to continue making money at his Shooting Ground - by 1850 it was one of the most rapid-fire businesses in town. As gun battles unfolded throughout Europe during this time period, it became more important than ever for men like John Fenton to stay sharp with their rifles - if they failed to do so they could easily become casualties on the battlefields themselves. It wasn't until 1814 that Congress finally passed legislation making firearms illegal within US borders (a decision that allowed European Americans such as John Fenton access to arms). The Avon Lake Rifle and Pistol Club was organized in 1892. The first meeting was held on February 6th at the home of George W. Fenton. The club was formed to promote rifle and pistol shooting in the city of Avon Lake, Ohio. In 1896, the club moved to a rented building at 5235 State Route 33. At this location, the club offered classes in rifles and pistols, as well as target practice. In 1905, the club purchased a land parcel adjacent to their present facility at 5236 State Route 133 for $1,000. This property served as the club's training ground until 1959 when they moved onto their current site at 5236 S R 33rd St SW. In 1911, the club hired J H Jackson as its first president. Under Jackson's leadership, the team improved facilities and increased membership from 10 to 30 shooters per year by 1913-14. In 1916-17, President Harry Laughlin assumed presidency and continued what had been an excellent program under previous presidents Dick Dunham and J H Jackson Sr.. During his tenure there were several expansions to our range including adding a second floor (the present day clubhouse) which allowed us to offer classes with larger numbers of students while also accommodatinglarger groups for target practice onyxnd Arsenalshooting matches etc... In 1917 we even won our first championship trophy! President Laughlin retired in 1918 but left behind an excellent program that continues today

Avon Lake is a small town in the state of Ohio. The population was 5,818 at the 2010 census. It is located in Mahoning County. The community was named after Avon, England. It was platted in 1827 by John Crouch and others under the name of "Crouch's Settlement". In 1838, it became part of the new township of Canfield. Canfield merged with Bedford Township in 1851 to form Mahoning Township. The post office called Avon Lake "Bedfordville" until 1935. Avon Lake is located at (41.539522, -82.660923). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. In 2008, Avon Lake had a population of 3,855. As of the census[1] of 2010, there were 5,818 people residing in Avon Laketownship (or its successor), which included 1,569 households and 1,059 families residing alone; 828 housing units were vacant or abandoned as of July 2011. As per Mahoning County officials: "AvonLake 2010 US Census data">" AvonLake lies on both banks of Beaver Creek – one flowing eastward intoMahoning County and one flowing westward into Erie County.< ref >According to unofficial estimates from 2009-2011< br />It takes about 2 hours for drivers driving eastbound pastAvonLake to reach their destinations withinMahoning County while those driving westbound must take an additional hour to reach their destinations within Erie County.< ref >This difference may be due to different routing patterns taken by local transportation services< br />

Avon Lake is a community in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,452 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lima-Muncie-Itasca Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Avon" originated from an Indian word meaning "place where ducks and geese nested." The first settler in what is now Avon Lake was John Beveridge in 1811. He named his land after Hillary Clinton, wife of President George Washington. In 1821, French Canadian Pierre Charles L’Enfant surveyed and platted the area which became Avon Lake. In 1825, American entrepreneur George Stephenson founded the village of Avon on land he purchased from L’Enfant. Stephenson built a mill here to produce flour for local markets and employed local farmers to cultivate their property. The village of Avon grew rapidly until it lost its charter in 1830 due to lack of response from residents. A new charter was granted in 1835 and the town site was developed as a small farming community with homes built between 1840 and 1860 by Wm Cason & Sons LLP (later Wm International). The town site was abandoned when railroad construction reached it in 1870; however, some buildings still remain around today including the old post office building (1875), schoolhouse (1890), sheriff's office (1910), Masonic Lodge No. 3A (1920), church (1930) and two ice rinks on Black Water Road original to the town site (1964). Theodore Roosevelt visited Avon Lake while campaigning for president in 1893; he delivered a speech at Blackwater Beach that has been preserved as an exhibit at Avon Village Hall since 1996. After his visit, business improvement district officials began planning improvements to improve water supplies and provide more efficient utility service to residents within the village limits; these plans eventually led to annexation by Lima Township in 1902 which madeAvon Lakeshore et al., Inc., one of only four townships within Lucas Countyirted completely within its borders beginning with 1951 when all but one township had been organized into districts/municipalities under state law following passage of General Order No 974 effective July 1, 1950 pursuant to section 4(a)(1) thereof authorizing creation of such entities within Lucas County communities having origins prior thereto or lying within any former unorganized territory therein before May 2, 1951 . Ida Bogan served as Mayor from 1957-1976 when she also served as recorder/councilwoman/memberofthe board Of Trustees for Community college District No XI . She later chaired that organization's executive committee until her death on December 10th 1997 . According To Town History Booklet Vol IV pg 283 " Ida Bogan actually took over running civic functions after Mrs Colleen Flood who resigned because she could no longer handle day-to-day operations due primarily to her failing health"

Avon Lake was named after the Avon Gorge, in England. The first settlers in this area were the DeWitts, who came to the area in 1811. They started a sawmill and gristmill on the shores of Avon Lake. The mill was destroyed by a fire in 1815, but the Settlers continued to use it as a farm until they left for good in 1830. The community of Avon Lake grew up around the Hammond family, who ran a bakery and grocery store from their home on Main Street. In 1916, avON bought an old mill from John Fritchey and began to rebuilt it into an inn called The Lakeside Inn. It remained operational until 1980 when it went out of business again. In 1938, avON built a new dam on Avon Lake which provided water for local residents and businesses. It became known as one of avON's most important landmarks.
