Avon Lake is a town in and the county seat of Trumbull County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1810 as a post office called Avon Mills. The name was changed to Avon Lake in 1866 because of railroad construction through the area. In 1907, it became one of four townships in Trumbull County; the others were Canton, Medina and Strongsville. The township was abolished by an act of the Ohio General Assembly on February 14, 1912. It has a deep inland water body known as AvonLake which forms its southern border with Medina County to the east and west; both counties are also nearby along Interstate 71W/US-6W motorway which runs through Canton and Strongsville communities between them.
