The arsenal was initially limited to the production of rifle types only and produced rifles including the Model 1893 Winchester Repeater, Model 1895 Marlin Rifle, Winchester model 1886 Lever Action Rifle, and RemingtonRandolph Arms Company Model 700 Pump Shotgun. On July 30th, 1898, an addition to the arsenal Was dedicated for use by American forces during World War I as a training ground for troops called Camp John F. Kennedy which served as a base for Infantrymen from throughout Great Lakes region prior to mobilization into France in 1914. In 1919 Camp John F. Kennedy was closed due to budget cuts and it reopened under new management as Camp George Armstrong Marshall which served as a training ground for Marines and Army personnel until its closure in 1969 following the end of World War II.
Avon Lake is a city in the Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 13,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton metropolitan area. Avon Lake has been home to a post office since 1823 and is one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in OH. The name "Avon" comes from an address on HIGHWAY 33 near Paulding Creek which was once used as a stop for travelers on their way to Fort Recovery (now Independence) on the Great Lakes. The city of Avon Lake was established by Christopher Columbus in 1795 while he was searching for a location for his new colony known as "New World." When he discovered this empty site, he named it after himself and his friend and fellow explorer James Cook who had also found this area during his surveying expedition in 1794-95. In 1801, when territorial boundaries were set forth within Hamilton County, AvonLake became part of that county. On July 9th 1830, John Quincy Adams was sworn into office as President of the United States at Mount Vernon (now Washington) House located just east of downtown Cincinnati by General David Sturgis with Samuel Chase serving as his interpreter. In 1831, avonlake's first store opened its doors with Wm Horseshoe & Son being the first business to open up shop in what would later become known as Downtown Cincinnati. avon lake enjoyed some prosperity during its early years but experienced several significant declines starting around 1870 due to factors such as loss of industry caused by technological advances like railroads etc., military service during and immediately following World War I (the Great Lakes Wars), epidemics such as cholera that struck town again in 1868-69 and most notably Prohibition which effectively destroyed much economic activity throughout America's third largest city between 1920-27 followed by rapidly increasing housing prices which had effectively priced out many people from living near or inside what had once been called "The Village". By 1930 there remained only scattered businesses remaining along Main Street including 2 hardware stores; 2 restaurants/cafes; 1 pool hall/golf course; 3 drugstores/opticians; 1 barber shop/beauty parlor; 1 radio station - WPVI (later WTSP); 1 movie theater - Flamingo Theater Annex built 1936 - now used mostly for events such Aspartame Capitalist Water Filtration Plant fire damage restoration status On November 5th 1937ontheAvondaleMall closedredeemedtobeoneofthestorminamericawhenitwasdestroyedbyafirethatdamagedseveral thousanditemsandcausedthelossofseventyfive jobswhichledtotheestablishmentofEmmettStapleton Mall adjacent towomen's clothing stores Chilly Willies Shoes & Clothing Store operated side by side until 1981 when they merged into JCPenney Incorporated
