Aurora, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Holmes County. The population was 21,569 at the 2010 census. Aurora is located on the southern border of Holmes County and is bordered by Lucas County to the north, Geauga County to the east, and Clinton Township to the south. Aurora was founded in 1814 as a small village on a bend in the Cuyahoga River by three brothers who had emigrated from Hungary. It became an incorporated town in 1826 when it became part of Lucas County. In 1907, Aurora became one of thirty-six townships (and one rural township) established within Holmes County; it remained an unincorporated community until its annexation by Aurora in 2000. The city proper has been continuously listed as part of OH City limits since 2009 residents voted to annex themselves into OH's larger metropolitan area through a referendum approved by voters there that same year. The current name for Aurora was chosen after General George Washington's eventual burial near Cincinnati, Ohio and his estate lay just outside of town Limits: "Washington Township", which would be more easily pronounced than "Aurora". A second vote conducted two years later resulted in rebranding all municipal services under one single name - Aurora - effective January 1st 1909 In 1932, Euclid Avenue (now Main Street) was widened from four lanes to six as part of Mayor John Fenton's efforts to improve downtown business district along with new central business district buildings including what are now City Hall and State Capitol Building When HolmesCounty merged with GeaugaCounty on April 14th 2004 they also annexed parts of ClintonTownship

Peacock founded the American Rifleman magazine in New York City, which became the first major gun magazine in the United States. By 1895, American Rifleman had a circulation of over 100,000. The early firearms magazines were designed to provide instruction on how to shoot guns and were not meant to be circulated among large numbers of people. In 1892, Winchester Publications Company merged with American Rifleman Magazine company and began producing ammunition for firearms under the name Winchester Ammunition products. This led to the eventual introduction of large-scale printing of firearm magazine issues by Winchester publications company which helped increase its circulation from about 10,000 in 1896 to over 250,000 by 1903. The popularity of these magazines allowed firearms manufacturer such as Colt Firearms Company and Remington Arms Corporation to spread their product lines beyond just handguns and rifles into other categories including shotguns and artillery pieces. By 1912, both American Rifleman (later known as NRA) and Winchester Ammunition had ceased publication due to economic reasons but continued distribution through their respective licensee companies until 1974 when both companies merged into what is now Smith & Wesson Corporation. At this point handgun sales outside of America effectively stopped while rifle/shotgun sales increased significantly; this change was largely due to extensive advertising campaigns waged by Smith & Wesson subsidiary SIG Sauer AG which targeted new customers who might not have heard of either company prior to merger

Aurora, Ohio is a small town located in the eastern part of the state of Ohio. The population was 5,865 at the 2010 census. It is the most recent community to be founded in Erie County and was laid out in 1836. The name Aurora comes from two towns that were once part of it- Aurora and Xenia. The first post office in Aurora opened on November 1, 1837, and it was renamed Xenia after an advance party reached there on October 16th of that year. The town became known as Aurora when James Kinsman built his sawmill there on December 12th, 1836. In 1854, local farmers formed a cooperative to grow corn crops and raise hogs in what is now downtown Aurora. The first school in Aurora opened for students on September 15th, 1851. It was called Indian School #1 because it served Indian children living near by who could not attend school due to lack of money or space at their homes. The first teacher was Mrs. Harris and instruction began with arithmetic and reading from books provided by the parents before being moved to other subjects such as history, geography, Moral Science (later becoming democracy), music theory and spelling over time until finally science around 1870 when classes began with chemistry experiments done using salt water solutions instead of land distilled water like many schools did at that time! In 1865 the village had just six residents when they voted unanimously to incorporate as a village under state law passed that year which allowed communities within Erie County to form themselves into villages if they desired! Auroras first board member was Drury Hickey! In 1905 they annexed another village- Defiance- but this annexation never happened because Defiance refused certifications from the Village Board! On July 8th 1907 new municipal boundaries were drawn up following a referendum held in which residents voted 99% in favor becoming an incorporated city underState law!!! This event made aurora one of only 4 cities statewide which became operative immediately upon passage!! Although considered an integral part of central Erie County for many years prior its incorporation into city limits during those early years aurora experienced decline during prohibition era due mainly to loss of jobs related to liquor production; however this has reversed since prohibition ended although some business still remains today associated with alcohol production! The current City Hall Building which replaced old Municipal hall dates back to 1912 when much work on improving streetscape including sidewalks and streetlights took place inside then also added electric lighting outside making this one of only 2 municipalities within State lines then entire United States having both indoor/outdoor electroniclighting installed simultaneously !! On January 17th 2013 Mayor Tom Barrett announced plans for demolition/ reconstruction/updatingof building complex starting with ground level addition totaling 653 feet long & 27 feet wide open air classroom providing access from Lawndale Road side all the way down Main Street!!!! This $15 million project will create 375 new jobs!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The first settlers in Aurora, Ohio were the Saugus Indians. They arrived in 1799 and built their first cabin on an outcrop of rock overlooking the river. The site is now known as Saugus Heights. In 1802, John Dickey and his brother-in-law James Aikens settled on a farm at what is now called West Side Avenue. They soon began to build a log cabin which they named "Aurora." It was built in 1803, and served as the family's home until 1867 when they moved to Frankfort. Mr. Aikens died in 1876, and his wife continued to live there until her death in 1922.
