Aurora, Ohio is a town of over 50,000 people located just south of Cleveland on the Great Lakeshore. It was founded in 1825 by fur traders and pioneers and has been home to a number of industries including munitions manufacturing, papermaking, shipbuilding and other commercial activity throughout its history. White moved from near Portsmouth, New Hampshire to this location after purchasing 5 acres (2 hectares) of land from John Graves Simcoe for $200USD (). White built his home on what is now Second Avenue North and hired James Mackey as his butler to help him manage the property. On May 1st, 1816, Peter McMillin purchased 100 acres (40 hectares) north of Aurora from Jonathan Dayton and laid out a town plan according to Frenchtown planning principles which called for two main streets running east-west with several smaller streets branching off them; each street leading into one or more square blocks with houses arranged around its center (now known as "Aurora Square"). One can still see many remnants of this original town plan today such as Second Avenue North and Elm Street between Third Avenue South and Fourth Avenue South
