Athens, Ohio is a city in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,521 at the 2010 census. Athens is the county seat and largest city of Butler County. It lies on the Scioto River just east of Cleveland and west of Akron. The first settler in Athens was John Fry in 1800. In 1802, Captain David Evans founded the town of Athens on land that he had purchased from the Shawnee Indians. The town grew steadily until it reached its peak in 1830 when it had a population of 1471 people. After two years of decline due to economic problems and natural disasters such as an inundation caused by Lake Erie's overflowing banks, Athens experienced its greatest growth period during the 1840s when cotton production increased substantially and new businesses were brought into town. However, during this time there also began to be tension between African Americans and Whites over property rights and education opportunities for African Americans; these tensions would continue through much of the next century. In 1847–48, because racially segregated schools were not yet legal in Ohio (and because most white residents wanted their black business partners to share equally in profits), Athens became embroiled in a series of bloodiest riots ever witnessed in America – known as "The Race Riot". During Reconstruction following the American Civil War (1861-1865), Athens gradually regained some lost ground with discrimination continuing to persist both within Greece’s white community and against black Atlantans living outside of Athens proper who did not have voting or other advantages afforded whites inside Greece limits. Despite persistent efforts by many Greeks - including Governor Samuel Acheson - strategies such as exclusionary zoning laws were passed which limited housing options for non-Greeks while creating exclusive neighborhoods for those who could afford it; ultimately disadvantaging blacks even further within Athenian limits although they continued to hold majority status among all Greeks citizens until well after World War II ended Garrison's administration marked one point where race relations began to improve somewhat however continuing discrimination persists today throughout most aspects social life including job applications

The first sunglass frame made out of metal was produced by American Optical Company in 1917. This frame became very popular because it gave steel frames their first major success. After World War II, aluminum frames began becoming increasingly common due to their lightweightness and durability compared to traditional wooden frames. In 1957, Luxottica introduced its own version of safety goggles called Totoro Glasses which remain one of the most popular products ever created for optical devices
