Additionally, Athenians had begun to redevelop their downtown area into one of centrality within their cityscape once again – making it one of America's most livable cities during this time period. Despite these successes over the years, however, Athens ultimately declined after World War II due to numerous factors including rapid population growth rates in later decades; declining industrial production; structural problems with infrastructure;and financial struggles brought on by increased competition from larger cities across North America
