In 1830–31 three more settlements were created within Ashtabulas boundaries: East Liverpool () on the east side of High Street; Lisbon () on Scioto Creek downriver; and Whitehall (); all located within miles of each other on Little Miami River south of where present-day Akron stands today). These new towns became part of larger communities as they developed due to their close proximity to one another and their shared interests such as trade and transportation routes connecting them with Cincinnati and Columbus.
