In recent decades, some efforts have been made to preserve aspects of Ashtabula's cultural history including reactivation of an old grist mill which served as a community center until 1985; restoration of historic buildings; creation of educational programs about local history; and hosting annual events such as Oktoberfest orakespeare party series
