Ashtabula, Ohio is a small city in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 7,569 at the 2010 census, making it the 11th-most populous city in Ohio and the third-most populous city in Greater Cleveland. Ashtabula is located on the southern bank of the Olentangy River, about 20 miles (32 km) east of Cleveland on Interstate 77. The first settler in what is now Ashtabula County was Nicholas Percival from England who arrived in 1796. He named his land "Ashtabula" after a village near his home town of Ebenezer, Massachusetts. When he died in 1814, his widow married George Washington Butler and they founded Butler University which still exists as a part of Case Western Reserve University system today The area that became Ashtabula County was included within Canada by an act of Parliament on July 1, 1800 and known as Northwest Territory. On October 14, 1802, United States Congress passed an act incorporating Ashtabula Township into Stark County due to its location on the border between Canada and Mexico; however this Act did not take effect until November 12th due to Canadian objections In 1830 Ashtabula had just over 1000 residents when it was destroyed by a tornado that struck eastern Ohio killing 15 people and damaging or destruction throughout most of downtown including many homes which remain standing today On December 10th 1837 Timothy Cady made history when he set out from Bridgeport Indiana along what would become US Route 66 for what would be his final journey westward

Ashtabula, Ohio is a town in Ashtabula County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. Ashtabula is part of the Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by French Canadians in 1795 and named for Athsabula Lake in Ontario. It was annexed by as much as twenty other towns during the late 1800s because of its strategic location on the Great Lakes region between Detroit and Cleveland. Apostolic Christianity began to spread through Ashtabula in 1801 when Rev. John Crouch baptized residents there. The first Catholic church built in Ashtabula arrived in 1804 and served until 1836 when it burned down due to a lack of funding. In 1847, citizens voted to establish a school system which later became known as Ashtabula Academy (now Northern State University). In 1865, Ashtabulas first post office opened with nine mailboxes and three employees serving sixty-eight days per year; it closed on October 1st that year due to budget cuts effective November 1st that year. In 1915, the National Defense Act authorized the President of the United States to create military zones within national borders for self-defense purposes; authority this act gave rise to 42nd Infantry Division Headquarters being located just outside of Ashtabulas limits on July 24th 1916 while also authorizing an armored regiment called "The Buffalo" from Fort Wayne Indiana be stationed at nearby Middletown Township for training purposes only! This event signaled an end to years of British occupation beginning with General Sir Hudson Hindman’s march into town on September 5th 1916 followed by aerial bombardment conducted by American planes over downtown locations ending one day after local residents had successfully defended their homes! For many years following World War I central Ohio’s economy boomed thanks largely to radial transportation network created through railroads linking eastern cities with western areas creating what today is known as “the Rust Belt”! However with technological advancements starting out during World War II such as jet fuel production capability industrial production declined excepting munitions manufacturing although wartime assistance did bring increased spending dollars which eventually led Toymaker Glass Company establishment here specifically helping revive economic activity during this time period!! With statewide unemployment rates reaching double digits throughout most of the 1960s jobs were hard to come by however factory openings continued throughout that decade resulting primarily from expansions at major employers rather than layoffs especially given high unemployment rates prior thereto!!! Today despite persistent joblessness rates average incomes are above poverty lines making Ashtabula one of America’s wealthiest small towns !!

In 1814, Ashtabula became a town when it was included within the United States. In 1830, it became a city when it annexed neighboring Holmesville.
