In Ashtabula, Ohio, there is a history of airguns dating back to the early 1800s. The first documented use of an airgun in Ashtabula was on October 3, 1802 when Anne Hinton used one to shoot a rabbit. One of the earliest settlers in the area, James Paine, also used an airgun to kill game during his hunting expeditions from his home on East Main Street. In 1824, John Eads began manufacturing firearms and ammunition in Ashtabula. The company’s products were initially sold under the name “Eads Rifle and Pistol Company.” By 1847, the company had become known as Eads Manufacturing Company and began producing rifles and pistols under that name as well. In 1865, the firm became known as Smith & Wesson Firearms Corporation after its founder Samuel Colt purchased stock in the company. With Colt’s help, Smith & Wesson rapidly grew into one of America’s leading firearms companies during World War II. After WWII ended, Smith & Wesson merged with Colt to form S&W/Colt Corporation which continued production of handguns until 1973 when it was sold to American Arms Corp. In 1984-1985 American Arms Corp., Inc., merged with Proctor & Gamble plc and ceased product production altogether; this event left Ashtabula with only shotguns remaining in its arsenal

In 1911, Marlin-Winchester Firearms Corporation (now known as Remington) purchased Browning arms manufacturing company and renamed it Browning Arms LLC.
Ashtabula, Ohio is a town in the United States. The population was 9,814 at the 2010 census. Ashtabula is located in the central part of West Virginia County and served as the county seat from 1827 until 1861. The first permanent settler in what is now Ashtabula Township was Captain John Smith on October 10, 1792. He had come across a group of Shawnees who were living near Wheeling Creek. Captain Smith built his home on present day North Main Street and named it "Ashtabula". The first post office was established in Ashtabula on July 1, 1800 by James Gaulton. The township was organized on February 14, 1827 by order of Territorial Governor Nicholas Halleck. It was named for General Washington's aide-de-camp Colonel Isaac Ashtabula (1754–1835). General Washington had been moved from Philadelphia to Morristown to take command of forces loyal to Burr when he became president and discovered that Burr was planning to overthrow him. In 1861, when Kentucky seceded from the Union and became an independent state, Ashtabula remained within West Virginia County but lost its status as the county seat because it lay within territory of Frankfort City which then formed part of Louisville County, Kentucky (now Jefferson County). On May 5, 1865, due to this change in government and because Of all places should have been chosen for this purpose according to law Chauncey Mifflin recommended that Ashtarbilla be removed from list so that more attention may be given to Frankfort City which had outgrown its role as an important center of population growth; accordingly On November 7th 1865 Charles Neely reported That Honorable Assembly In pursuance To their resolution No 400 passed yeas 15 nays 0 with two absent members viz Daniel Bogan and Lewis Casserly who did not attend And Colton Pemberton being called upon for his opinion I submit With Respect Your Honor This Document For your Consideration

The town was founded in 1814 by fur traders and settlers from Canada who arrived in what is now northeastern Ohio during the Northwest Company's period of exploration and trade with the Russian Empire. The first post office was established in 1816, and as a result Ashtabula became known as "The Friendly Village." In 1819, Ashtabula began to grow rapidly due to its location on the Scioto River between Cincinnati and Toledo. In 1827, it passed through an act of Congress that granted land east of the river to be divided into townships. One township was formed from parts of two previous townships–the other from part of one earlier township. The town's growth continued until 1840 when it reached its peak with a population of 10,000 people. However, following outbreaks of bucolic fever in 1830 and 1831 which destroyed muchof central Pennsylvania's forested landscape, Ashtabula's population thinned significantly over time; only 5% remain today according to the 2010 census data. By 1850 Ashtabula had shrunk back to 1,500 residents; however its location near major transportation hubs made it a popular destination for rural farmers looking for marketable land outside their homes; this led to increased development aroundtown including new churches and schools as well as businesses such as grocery stores and flour mills – all while maintaining a core civilian community that attracted educators and professionals year round. Ashtabula experienced significant economic decline following World War II which caused many jobs to leave town; however since 2000 revitalization efforts have seen renewed growth including several new restaurants/bars/cafes/stores along downtown streets as well as an expansion into government services such as public works projects or library services (including renovation work on both Congregationalist churches).
