Ashland, Ohio is a city in the United States located in the northern part of the state of Ohio. The population was 14,691 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Ashland County. The area now known as Ashland was first settled by Europeans in 1788. The town site was chosen because it offered good grazing land for cattle and horses and because there were no other settlements near by. In 1811, John Fenton built a small log cabin on what is now State Route 7 East in what is now Ashland. He named his settlement "Fenton's Ford". In 1814, Nicholas Goodrich founded a small village on Tioga Creek north of present-day Ashland to serve settlers living along that creek. Goodrich named his village "Goodrich's Station". By 1820, all but one resident of Goodrich's Village had moved away and replaced their dwellings with permanent structures, including a school House and store buildings which remain standing today. Ashland became an incorporated town on March 15, 1827; its charter states that it will be governed by a board appointed by Mayor Jno Wahlroos from among residents who subscribe to this form of government. On December 12, 1830, President Andrew Jackson signed into law an act incorporating Ashtnall under the name "Ashland Township", taking effect on January 1st231) The first mayor was James Kieft (1830-1832). On January 1st1831 township boundaries changed due to annexation by neighboring Chillicothe Township (now Delaware County). This made Ashtnall & Chillicothe both townships & within Ashtnall’s borders until it seceded from Ashtnall Township on February 26th 1836 when it united with unincorporated portions of Delaware County to form Warren County (now Greater Cleveland). Settlement continued until about 1850 when most people moved westward or eastward across the Great Lakes region during the expansionism which followed America’s financial crash which caused many joblessness & economic chaos throughout much of Western Europe at that time

Ashland, Ohio is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,579 at the 2010 census. The core of the town is on the east side of Ashland Lake and it developed around a sawmill and gristmill on the lake. In 1811, John Marshall built a house here as his home to store goods he had transported from Kentucky. The first post office in Ashland was established in 1814. In 1821, Captain James Cox opened a trading post here with supplies for soldiers fighting against Native Americans on the Great Lakes Confederation. The post office closed in 1826 because of Stephenson's War with Indians. In 1830, John Acker founded the Cleveland and Erie Railroad here from Cleveland to Athens Junction. Acker also built a gristmill and mill complex that still stands today on nearby Ashland Road near Bicknell Park Elementary School. In 1840, George Sibley built another mill complex nearby on land he acquired fromCaptain James Cox. Sibley operated this mill until 1862 when it burned down due to an accident involving coal oil residue left over from previous operations. In 1861-1863, Union troops burned down two other mills in Stark County as part of their Campaign against Confederate General Robert Ewell's army retreating through Ohio after unsuccessful attempts to cross the River Mississipi into Indiana Territory (now Michigan). These mills were later rebuilt and continued operation until they were destroyed by fire in 1916 during World War I; the last one being closing days before American entry into World War I which stopped all industry across America including those located in Stark County except for Grinding Mill No 5 which continued functioning until 1923 when it caught fire again due to Polish immigrant workers using incendiary materials stored inside)
The village of Ashland was founded in 1814 by James H. Ash and his wife Rachel. The first post office was established in 1815, and the first store was opened in 1816. In 1830, the town of Ashland was organized, and a Methodist church was built. In 1850, the community of Ashland added a school to its citizens. That same year, the railroad arrived in town, and soon there were stores, churches, and schools throughout the village. In 1865,Ashland became part of Union Township. In 1915, Union Township merged into Athens County. Today, there are many businesses located within the boundaries of Ashland village; including several restaurants and bars as well as a library system that offers preschool through eighth grade programs statewide.
