Ashland is a town in Ashland County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,371 at the 2010 census. The first gun pouch was made by John Jacob Astor in 1836. It consisted of an old coat of paint and a piece of cloth sewn together to create a bag or pocket. In 1840, the first store in Ashland opened and sold guns and ammunition. In 1851, the first post office in Ashland opened and served as the center for gun buying and selling in Ashland County until 1907. From 1852 to 1861, there were three sheriff's deputies in each township (excluding Ashland), providing law enforcement services while also purchasing firearms from local dealers. The National Firearms Act of 1934regulated firearm ownership within the United States through the Gun Control Act of 1968 which created background check requirements for all buyers before any purchase could be made. The first European settlers in what is now Ashland were French Canadian voyageurs who arrived during the early 1800s and named their land "Canada." The first permanent settler in present-day Ashland was George Washington, who bought land from the Potawatomie Indians in 1811. He built a log cabin on his farm which served as his home until he died in 1814. His son John Washington purchased the farm from George's widow and continued to live there until his death in 1821. In 1830, James Kapp founded the village of Kappstown (now Portsmouth) on his own property near what is now Ashland after selling shares of land to actor Edwin Booth for $1 per acre (although no such sale exists). As part of a agreement made with then-Mayor Nicholas Cooke, Kapp provided free schooling to all children between ages 5 and 17 years old starting on May 1, 1830; later that year, he donated land for a courthouse and jail complex which still stands today. On October 25, 1836, General Anthony Wayne attacked Indian forces encampment at Sandusky River Bridge northeast of present day Ashland while seeking revenge for United States military losses at Battle of Fallen Timbers two months earlier. The battle resulted in over 60 deaths including General Wayne himself and 10 percent of US Native American warriors encountered during the engagement - making it one of America's bloodiest battles ever fought by its military forces up to that time In 1840 Union Major David Lloyd built a sawmill west of town on Canfield Creek just north of where Interstate 71 now intersects State Route 453 In 1850 Alfred Smedley organized local farmers into an agricultural society known as the Society for Promoting Agriculture & Manufactures which erected a flour mill on Mill Brook southwest of town initial production commenced however due to high costs associated with running this mill – primarily transportation expenses – it failed within 6 months In 1865 John Doster began construction on what would become known as Doster House adjacent to current day Pioneer Park opposite where I-71 meets SR 453 A store was established on Main Street across from Easley's Bakery sometime around 1870 However arson destroyed most buildings within 2 years as business became sporadic After World War II several stores moved out onto I-71 & SR 453 although most remain intact today With assistance from various organizations like Cincinnati Parks Department & Downtown Development Authority redevelopment plans have been put together & are currently under way resulting in increased occupancy rates & investment creating new job opportunities downtown along with increasing retail growth elsewhere throughout town

This frustration boiled over into open rebellion against Ulysses S Grant's rule years later when he moved the military headquarters back to Lansing after devastating battles at Battle Creek and Vicksburg while homered off Goble Island during our Great Lakes War (1865-1866). By 1870s, all vestiges of traditional Dutchtown life had dissipated and most residents had relocated away for better opportunities within Illinois or other states within the Union; only a few dozen remained inAshland proper by 1880 census count." In 1814, Ashland was founded by Joshua L. Goodloe and his family.Goodloe was the founder of Goodloe & Company, a land brokerage company that became one of Ohio's most prominent businesses. The Goodloe family remained active in the community until their death in 1918. In the late 1800s, Ashland experienced rapid growth due to its location as an agricultural center and its proximity to both Cincinnati and Cleveland. In 1907, Governor John Taft authorized the erection of a national monument in honor of General George W. Harrison, who had died that year while serving as president of America. The park at Ashland has since been known as Harrison Park. During World War II, Ashland was home to many military installations including Fort Knox and Camp Grant.
