Alliance is a small town in Ohio that was founded in 1847. It is the county seat of Lucas County and the largest municipality in the county by population. The town has a population of about 12,000 people and is home to the Alliance-Muncie College campus. The first settlers in Alliance were farmers who came from Kentucky. They set up near what is now downtown Alliance and began trading goods with the Indians. In 1847, they organized as a village and named it after their old home state, Kentucky. They named it "Alliance Mill". The mill continued to be run until it closed in 1922. After it closed, the brothers donated the mill buildings and land to Alliance College for use as its main campus. Today, most of what was once known as "the Allis Brothers Mill" remains at Alliance College; however, some parts have been torn down and replaced with new structures such as the library and gymnasiums. By 1890, there were only about 100 people living in Alliance proper; however, by 1920 there were over 2,500 people living there including 500 students at Summit High School (now part of Lucas Community College). During World War II this number increased to 5500 because many local businesses supplied military needs such as Armory workers' housing barracks etcetera . In 1948 when Ohio gained its independence from United States involvement in World War II (becoming an official country), Ally voted to become one of only four communities withinLucas County that kept their Unionist party affiliation even though most other residents had switched to communism or socialism following America's victory!
In 1810, the first settlers in what is now Alliance, Ohio arrived from Pennsylvania. They were led by a group of men who called themselves the "Young Men of the Land". In 1812, they formed an alliance with other groups to form the Northwest Territory Company. The company was designed to promote settlement and commerce in what is now northwest Ohio. It also allowed for military defense against Native Americans. The company's initial land grant was large andcovering much of what is now northcentral Ohio. By 1830, it had sold over 360 acres of its holdings to residents of Akron, Cuyahoga Falls, Elyria, Lorain and Medina counties. The company left behind a lasting legacy in northwest Ohio by making it possible for people to settle there and make their homes.
