In 1932, a new company called Browning Arms USA was founded by Samuel Browning with the goal of producing high-quality handguns at an affordable price point for American citizens everywhere. Browning continued to produce quality handguns until 2009 when it merged with Glock Incorporation to form Glock Holdings Incorporated.
Alliance is a city in the eastern part of Ohio, United States. The population was 34,334 at the 2010 census. It lies along the Cuyahoga River and is served by the Alliance Municipal Airport. The first Europeans to visit what is now Alliance were French traders sailing downstream from Québec City on their way to Detroit in 1701. The Alliance, Ohio History Project was founded in 1984 by Dr. James H. Cavanaugh and Dr. Lorraine A. Kapp with the goal of preserving and researching the history of the town of Alliance, Ohio. The project has since grown to encompass over 20 research projects located throughout the township of Alliance and surrounding areas. Alliance is a small town located in Perry County, Ohio, about 25 miles east of Akron on I-75. The township was first organized in 1837 under the name of Union Township but changed its name to Alliance in 1868 after being united with other neighboring townships during the same year by a vote of residents. In 1915, when Perry County was formed from parts of Summit and Adams counties, Alliance became part of it as well. As an agricultural community, Alliance played an important role within both local and national economies during its time as a center for commerce and industry. Some notable businesses that have been located in or around town include Jardine Rubber Company (now Jardine-Pittsburgh Rubber) which produced tires for autos; Standard Oil (now ExxonMobil) which manufactured gasoline; United States Steel Corporation which built a steel mill at what is now known as Whitehall Road; Dayton Donut Shop; Erie Railroad Company (later Erie Railroad System); and Wabash Paper Mill which made paper products such as paper towels and toilet tissue until it closed operations in 1961. In addition to their economic contributions, some notable individuals who lived or worked in or near Alliance include industrialist George Patton Sr., author William Golding Jr., basketball coach Rick Majerus, baseball executive Branch Rickey, actor Gene Wilder and journalist Wendell Willkie Sr.. Today, most aspects of life within town are based upon agriculture rather than manufacturing or service industries due to challenges posed by increased competition from outside sources along with changes brought about by recent technological advances such as cellphones and air travel which have impacted both village economy and social infrastructure particularly those related to education
The first organized group of Native Americans in the area was the Ohio Confederation, which was created in 1811. The confederation consisted of Shawnee, Delaware, and Miami Indians. The group didn't have a permanent home until they moved to what is now Akron in 1814. In 1816, the confederation formed a new government and named themselves the United States of America.
