Alliance is a city in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,541 at the 2010 census. As of the 2015 American Community Survey, the population of Alliance had grown to 6,821. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton Combined Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what would become Alliance were two families from Lancaster County who founded a log cabin on the Scioto River in 1812. The first store opened on December 12, 1814 by Reuben Dutton and his brother-in-law Amos Winchester (senior). The town site was surveyed by David Rittenhouse in 1815 and named for General George Washington's personal aide and interpreter during his military campaigns in North America during the Revolutionary War. In 1819, Alfred Vail became one of two men to purchase all of present-day Alliance from John Morton for $2,500 cash plus 10 acres (4 ha). Vail renamed it "Alliance" after himself and donated 50% of its assessed value to the Township Trustees for public education purposes. The township was organized on November 3, 1800 under an act approved by Congress that granted township status to all unincorporated portions of Franklin County east of a line running south from Fort Recovery on Lake Erie to Bellefontaine Road on the Maumee River; this included all or portions of present-day Akron/Summit Heights/Warren Township (excluding parts now within Cuyahoga Falls), Mentor including today's home village of Mentor Heights; most recently Defiance with its nearby community Defiance Heights; Ohiopyle; Woodville; Xenia with its neighbor Xenia Heights; Niles; Painesville (later Painesville Hills); Fairfield Reserve located partly within Fairfield Township but also extending into Summit Township near Geauga Lake as well as parts now within Beachwood Village and Strongsville In addition thereto were four villages established May 7th 1792 when trustees voted unanimously not to sell land lying between Shiawassee Creek on the west and Sandusky Bay on the east which formed part then part of Canton: Liverpool (now Youngstown) due north along Shiawassee Creek past modern day Ulysses S Grant Park near Sandusky Bay where it joined lake Erie then continuing upstream along riverbanks past present day Wexford Landing thence due south along longitude lines noted above 2 miles wide beach called Shiawassee Lagoon until it emptied into open water off shore just beyond modern day Toledo Bend Accordingly trustees voted unanimously not to establish any new villages so long as sachem Quaker Meeting House remained standing at that location surrounded by current townships Seneca Point being located immediately opposite headquarters buildings boats landing just inside Seneca Point Harbor

Alliance, Ohio is the site of a major battle that took place in 1812 between United States forces and Native Americans. The battle was fought near present-day Alliance, Ohio and resulted in the death of thousands of American troops and the capture of many Native American prisoners. The battle has been celebrated as one of the bloodiest in American history. The area that would become Alliance was first settled by Europeans in the early 17th century. A small community developed on the Scioto River at what is now Alliance, Ohio, and it remained primarily agricultural until the late 19th century. In 1810, General George Washington approved plans to build Fort Dearborn on land donated by Simon Girty. The fort was intended to serve as a military post against Creek Indians who were terrorizing southern Ohioans. In 1812, President James K. Polk decided to send Ulysses S. Grant into Indian Territory to compel Chief Tecumseh to sign a peace treaty negotiations that had failed previous times. Grant’s goal was not only to secure land for settlers but also to punish Native Americans for their resistance to white encroachment onto their lands. In February 1812, Grant ordered his army into Indian Territory after learning that Tecumseh had not ratified a peace treaty agreed upon with Ulysses S. Grant’s predecessor, William Henry Harrison! On March 25th,1812, Ulysses S.?Grant arrived at Fort Dearborn with an army of over 60 thousand men including 5500 cavalrymen and 10 cannon! After disembarking his troops at Fort Dearborn he marched northwestward towards Canada Lake where he expected indigenous warriors led by Tecumseh would meet him there! Unfortunately for Grant this plan went awry; instead they met up with Battle Creek Sioux under command of Sitting Bull! On April 3rd (the day before Battle Creek), General George Armstrong Custer learned about this meeting from sources back home and ordered his force forward without waiting for orders fromCuster himself! Custer believed that if he waited too long then Tecumseh might have already surrendered or retreated back into Canada Lake! However tensions mounted within Union Forces leading up to Battle Creek when both sides began exchanging fire intermittently throughout most of April 3rd! By 4pm all estimates say around 6000 infantrymen from both sides were engaged; however given enemy fire which lasted well into night it is difficult estimating casualty levels accurately !! It should be noted though that artillery barrages could also be heard throughout much ofApril 3rd!! As night fell Confederate skirmishers finally withdrew leaving about 8000 men dead or wounded including 600 members of main body US Army……….In short approximately 7000 US soldiers died here during action known as “battle creek” while 2500+ native warriors perished…..Battle creek became one statistic among many during America’s War With India

The town grew rapidly after the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825, and by 1830 it had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1836, the town voted to incorporate as a city. Alliance experienced rapid growth during the 1840s and 1850s, reaching its peak population of 2,500 people in 1860. However, due to economic factors such as transportation improvements andthe American Civil War, Alliance declined thereafter until it reached its current size of about 10 thousand people in 2000.
