Akron, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Summit County. The population was 153,651 at the 2010 census, making it the 11th-largest city in Ohio and 2nd-largest city in Summit County. Akron was founded on October 10, 1825 by General David Cranch as a small town on the east side of what is now downtown Akron. It became an incorporated city on February 28, 1900. On July 1, 1996, Akron became part of the Dayton metropolitan area. The roots of Akron lie in its history as a small town located on the eastern edge of present-day downtown Akron where Methodists first built their church in 1825 and where Quakers established their meeting house in 1797. The name "Akron" likely comes from either English or Shawnee words meaning "place where buffalo roam." In 1827, General William Clark's army passed through this area during his march to take Detroit; some popular stories claim that General Clark stopped for lunch atauga (a type ofbuffalo) hunting ground near present day University Drive and Park Avenue before continuing his journey northward. The site of today's downtown Akron was then occupied by several farms including Pickens House which still stands today adjacent to First Baptist Church across Park Avenue from what is now Goodyear Tower apartments complex). On October 10th, 1825 David Cranch established a small town called 'Akron' on land lying east side of current day First Baptist Church plaza just northwest corner University Drive/Park Ave., close to future Findlay Township line - thus becoming one with what would become Dayton later that year when that township was organized out of portions including parts taken by both cities along with Olmsted Township southwest to form Dayton proper - all within newly created Cuyahoga County! This location would remain until 1800 when development began taking place around Lake Erie shoreline extending into what is now Fairfield Township! For another 110+ years 'Akron' lay undeveloped primarily due to Native American hunting rights granted by Great Lakes Indian nations throughout much Northwestern OH&C territory!! known locally as 'The Stripes', development gradually started encroaching upon these parcels beginning about 1870 thru 1910 mainly due to railroads being constructed thru central & SWOH corridors following rotations around Ohiopyle River valley creating new markets for agricultural goods leading eventually to industry !! Finally land values had risen & grids were laid out within limits resultant in physical annexation & incorporation into neighboring municipalities sometime after 1920s !! Today 'Akronton' continues as an unincorporated community located within Summit County boundaries

Akron, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Summit County. The population was 66,828 at the 2010 census, making it the 22nd most populous city in Ohio and the 18th most populous city in Greater Cleveland metropolitan area. Akron is one of three cities (the other two are Cleveland and Toledo) that make up the Cleveland–Akron–Canton Combined Statistical Area (CSA), which has a population of 931,523 as of July 1, 2016. The CSA is also home to The University of Akron and about 30 other cultural, commercial, educational, and professional institutions. The site where Akron now stands was first inhabited by Native Americans who knew the area for hunting and trade purposes. In 1797 by order of General George Washington an act was passed authorizing settlement on what is now downtown Akron by United States citizens who had volunteered to fill such roles as surveyors during the Northwest Indian War – part of what would become known as American Settlement policy. A group led by Captain David Wilkinson settled in this area in 1800 when they received land from President James Knoppers through Purchase Agreement No 2 between Great Britain and America; this land later became part of Summit County when it was organized into counties on November 3, 1850. In 1825 a group led by John Cranch decided to establish a new town on east side Unica Creek because they believed that areas west of Unica Creek were too swampy for development; their town name was changed to Akron due to its location near Rubber City (nowWarren) during construction operations associated with nearby Miamisburg’s founding as an incorporated village in 1827). By 1830 over 300 people lived in various parts of downtown Akron after being invited or chosen from among those who offered their services as surveyors for government purchase programs within what would become Summit County; these citizens included members from Cincinnati (then called “Middletown”), Columbus (then called “Verona”), Butternut Square Township (then called “Niles”), Delaware Township (then called “Summit”), Mansfield Township (then called “Sandusky”), Perrysburg Township (then called “Lodi”) and Youngstown Township (now part of Warren). On October 15, 1830 local officials convened a meeting at First Presbyterian Church to discuss creating township boundaries following US Census data which showed that there were 775 residents living within 10 miles radius including 400 farmers while just 64 residents lived within 25 miles radius including only 24 farmers; all 6 townships formed except Sandusky which detached itself from Youngstown on February 20th 1831 effective January 1st 1830 owing mostly to low levels ($3 per acre)of taxation resulting from lack thereof since it had been under English control until 1681 like much else along with $6 per acre assessed value on lands claimed primarily by Indians rather than whites prior thereto thus forfeiting any right thereto forever though some parcels still remain subject thereto pursuant to special acts Passed Pursuant Thereto); As such Sandusky became unincorporated again effective March 1st 1830 having previously been annexed into Youngstown township proper retroactive thereto although no change took place with regards to its governance structure despite some petitions filed thereon claiming otherwise hereafter.). "The Buffalo" Akron (1763-1847), a British officer who served in the American Revolution and the War of 1812.
