Between 1862 and 1865, he also created a public school district which helped spur enrollment growth within the city limits. By 1870, Akron had over 100 schools with teaching staff numbering more than 400 people. During World War II, when demand for munitions increased dramatically across all sectors of society including civilian populations living near coastal towns like New London Connecticut (near where Ithaca would be built) ,Akron saw its population grow by 30% due largely to postwar immigration from Europe (mainly Germany). Although not directly impacted by war production or rationing policies; much industrial output went unsold because consumers simply couldn't afford it without sacrificing essential household goods like food or clothing .War did have some indirect effects on local economies however as plants closed down due lack of orders or other factors such as natural disasters like floods
