The present-day downtown was built between 1907 and 1909 during the construction boom following Cleveland's incorporation as a city

Bauldie Smith, educator William Sloan Young Jr., and president Franklin D Roosevelt). In 1910, when Akron was unincorporated much like many other small towns across America after America entered World War I, Mayor James Gresham Hubbard organized a group to form a town government that would serve all residents within one square mile radius without having to go through the process of registration or electioneering which was common at that time This so called Municipal Government Act created an institutionalized body that would govern all aspects related to local life such as street cleaning, fire extinguisher regulation, zoning regulations etc... The Municipal Government Act still exists today as part of charter rights granted by law to certain organizations who maintain their functions or activities despite not being registered with the municipal government such as service clubs or Rotary Clubs
Akron, Ohio was founded by the Tempe brothers in 1787. The city became a center of industry and commerce with the founding of the famous Akron Company, which manufactured cannons and other firearms. The company also developed a machine-building industry. In 1814, the city's first school was built, followed by churches, businesses and a sewage plant in 1834. By 1830,Akron had a population of around 50,000 people. In 1847,the first railroad reached the city; it was called the "Canton Railroad." From then until 1870,Akron experienced growth as an industrial center and Wasse plant town. The commercial activity led to social unrest in later years; however, overall economic prosperity allowed for more artistic expression and cultural diversity than during earlier times.
