In 1906, a flour mill was built west of the town to replace an earlier one that had been destroyed by fire; it operated until 1951. In 1938, Williston voters passed a resolution authorizing the erection of a statue of George Washington within an hour of its passage; however, due to World War II military stationed throughout North Dakota at that time, the proposal failed to receive approval from officials.[2] Williston has several churches including First Baptist Church (founded 1865), Methodist Episcopal Church (1892), Presbyterian church (1904), Lutheran church (1911), Roman Catholic church (1922), Baptist church (1900) and African American Baptistchurch/African Methodist Episcopal Zion chapel which served as their only black congregation from 1922 to 1966 when all congregations converted to Protestantism or Catholicism . There are also private schools including Sully Elementary School which serves students grades Pre-Kindergarten through 4th grade as well as high school classes I thru XII along with adult academy which offers evening classes starting after 6pm

He is highly respected by his constituents and has been critical of many of the decisions made by city officials over the past few decades - including plans to reduce traffic congestion and expand library services; development efforts that have crashed and burned; or investments that have failed to create jobs or improve quality of life for locals. Despite this criticism from some quarters, McNaughton continues to lead his community through difficult times - showing resilience when faced with challenges no other mayor would be able to overcome.
