The city also erected a monument to commemorate these veterans on Elm Street near City Hall. In 1946, West Fargo annexed part of neighboring Nemaha County; this annexation created what is now Polk County. That year saw the construction of the first hospital building within town limits – Health Sciences Center II – which remains one of the most prominent buildings within town today. At present day, West Fargo ranks second only to Sioux Falls in South Dakota for number of physician practices per capita (behind only Sioux Falls). On July 1st 2020 - less than two years after being founded - West Fargo announced they had reached agreements with all 44 counties surrounding them for disbanding their police force early next year due to budget cuts across all departments combined! This move came as a result of protests started by citizens against law enforcement agencies across ND including Rapid City Police Department who had been providing services without any reimbursement since 2013!

The town name originated with about 60 pioneer farmers from Iowa who came to homestead near present day Fargo in 1876. They wereinitially called "Fargo-on-the-Bozeman" and later shortened to "West Fargo". The railroad reached this area in 1886 when it built its line through Fargo to Devils Lake. Unlike other towns along that route, West Fargo did not become a strategic military post because it lacked an important natural resource like timber or oil resources; instead it became an agricultural center due to its fertile soil and good water supply. In 1916 the town had a population of just over 100 people but by 1920 it had grown to 1,200 people thanks to annexation of nearby rural land. During World War II German troops burned down many local homes as they retreated from the advancing American forces; however none of these buildings remain today as evidence of what took place during that time period in this community. In 1951 West Fargo became one of seventeen cities within Grand Forks County when that county was created following statehood within North Dakota. That year also marked the start of development around downtown West Fargo after years of planning by city officials and developers working outOfDowntowns program which aimed to improve communal areas (includingculinary businesses) near major shopping malls across North Dakota while promoting job growth for local residents throughout downtowns transformation into vibrant living spaces
In 1881, Fargo was founded as a town on the Red River by Dakota Indians. The town grew rapidly due to its location at the center of a trade route between Minnesota and North Dakota. The post office was established in 1892, and within five years, Fargo had become one of the largest towns in North Dakota. In 1916, Fargo became the capital of North Dakota.
