Minot, North Dakota is a town in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New York metropolitan area. The name Minot may derive from either Norwegian or Danish origin, both meaning "place where mills are built." In 1881, the first post office in the borough was named Minot and it continued to be so until 1938. The name originated with Jens Jensen who bought land near present-day Minot Airport in 1879. A mill on what is now South Main Street was built by James Fenton in 1877 and remains one of the few remaining physical remnants of pioneer industry hereabouts. Other early businesses were a bakery and mercantile establishment founded by John Hennepin in 1880 (the latter still extant), as well as an livery stable operated by George Silliman that same year. A community hall also became operational during this period; it burned down after being struck by lightning in 1903 but was rebuilt and remained operative until its destruction by fire in 1958. "In 1898, Minot's first post office opened with ZIP code 76301." By 1910, when Bergen County was created from portions of Middlesex County, Minot had a population of 1,554 people living within its borders and 876 residents residing beyond them on unincorporated lands comprising what is now Hudson County. This growth did not stop there however; over time more stores and residences cropped up throughout the township making it one of NJ's most rapidly growing communities during those years according to Census records kept at that time." Mining operations began on nearby hillsides around 1900 thanks to local man Samuel Dickinson who mined silver content inside his mine shafts until 1935 while others built smelters starting up around 1912 along with new roads connecting these places started forming soon afterwards leading to various promotions for locals like Artur Kieffer (owner/operator of mines at Harrisonburg) becoming manager/director general of Mines Development Company which controlled access to veins etc within minutes flat after buying maps etc - you could get 6 carsloads per day back then! eventually getting permission from US government too! due how valuable these veins were! later becoming Statoil Energy Corp when oil supplies dwindled ;) In 1915 Dickinson’s son Harry took over operation from him when he passed away leaving active mines & smelters going strong into today!"
In 1881, the town of Minot was founded by Danish immigrants. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the Missouri River and its access to timber and other resources. In 1929, the town was renamed North Dakota's capital city after Pierre Elliott Trudeau, then Prime Minister of Canada.
