In response to Gustav's impact local officials worked hard to mobilize resources while Mayor Bigham set up a hotline for residents who could not leave their homes because of power outages or flooding

By 1912, Minot had become the county seat of Minot County due to its importance as a transportation hub for central Dakota Territory. In 1924, when rural areas around Fargo were shrinking due to oilakiing (a process by whichiscovered oil was developed on lands outside of urban areas),Minot became an important center for trade because it offered easy access toules (roads) through western North Dakota Territory that connected Fargo with other parts ofthe Midwest and Canada. As trade increased around Minot, so too did commercial development around the city; businesses opened up including banks/finance companies/, grocery stores/, movie theaters/,and restaurants/. In addition, various educational institutions such as Northern State Teachers’ College established themselves in downtown Minot during this time frame; these schools served as conduits for educated people within local communities throughout North Dakota Territory. During World War II, much activity took place within downtown Minutewhich included shipbuilding yards/yards supplying ships used by US forces stationed abroad on both sides of World War II.; also located here were two hospitals providing treatment to soldiers injured while fighting overseas; both medical facilities closed following war's end however their wreckage still remains today adjacent to Interstate 94 southbound near mile marker 169
