As a result, Weaponsmith Nicholas-Jacques Conte designed a new type of Pistol known as an “Infantry Rifle” whichfired lead balls instead of Bullets[4]. This new weapon proved accurate enough for combat and saw service throughout France until 1814 when it was replaced by rifles developed by British arms manufacturer Wilkinson & Company[5]. With advances in technology came improvements in firearms clothes design too; after all, what good is an effective weapon if it isn’t easy to keep clean? In 1820 French Infantry Colonel Claude l’Espinasse designed a camouflage uniform based on field conditions he observed during operations in Mexico City[6] .
