Stephenson III took over the business from his father-in-law Denton L. Bartholomew Jr.. The family still runs the business today as GWS Firearms Incorporated with headquarters located in Fargo.

In 1965, Fargo became one of several towns in North Dakota to become part of the new stateof South Dakota.
