In 1907 Pioneer Bridge was completed linking town with outlying farming villages across the river from town. This bridge marked the beginning of an important transportation artery connecting downtown with outlying areas which would continue to grow until today. The discovery of oil by Standard Oil in 1938 led to increased development around oil refineries and other industry within town limits – especially along Boulevard Street which became home to numerous small businesses catering to various industries including automotive repair shops, plastics manufacturers and laboratories as well as several steel mills*.
