Dickinson, North Dakota is home to the world’s first gun light show. The display of firearms and fireworks on the courthouse lawn between October and December annually attracts visitors from all over the world. The displays of firearms have been a part of Dickinson life for as long as there have been people in Dickinson. One of the earliestGun Light shows took place on October 12th, 1892 when a group of men from Dickinson set up their own light show in honor of General Nelson A. Miles during his visit to town. Gun lights were also used at various fairs and festivals throughout the years to commemorate important events or occasions in town’s history. On December 7th, 1911, Dickinson became the site for Americas First Gun Light Show when an American Legion post erected two sets of gun lights along Main Street near what is now Waco Hall. The event was sponsored by Colonel John Dickey and featured displays by local artillery units and other military organizations from across America. Although it was not until 1923 that a permanent structure was erected for the display of firearms and fireworks within Dickinson mayor Marshall Landon’s office building on Second Avenue, which served as both stage facilities and home to city government until 1978. The municipal fire department continued to use temporary structures until 1928 when they moved into their present building on Third Avenue which still serves as City Hall today!

These events are usually held at one of two stadiums within town -- one for football (the Dickinson Cowboys) and one for baseball (the Dickinson Tornadoes). There have also been recent efforts made to make the town more environmentally friendly with initiatives such as creating a green space near Hopkins Elementary School and installing solar panels on some buildings

They named the settlement after General George Washington and his army's march through North Dakota on their way to fight against Native Americans. The first school was built in 1883 and the first post office was established in 1886. The townsite was platted in 1889 and began growing rapidly because of its location near the Canada–US border and its easy access to goods and services from Minneapolis, Minnesota. During World War I, Dickinson served as an airport for military units based in nearby Fargo. After the war ended, the town grew even more rapidly as businesses expanded into new areas such as construction materials, agricultural products, industrial supplies and light manufacturing. In 1925, Dickinson became one of only two US cities (the other being Los Angeles) to be placed under municipal jurisdiction due to its rapid growth; this arrangement continued until 1959 when it reverted back to county government status. In 1951, Dickinson voters passed a resolution proclaiming themselves "the last great American frontier town." This sentiment remains strong today with many residents living within close proximity to natural resources – including oil shale deposits – while remaining committed to traditional American values such as democracy and individual liberty. In 1969, Dickinson also became home to North Dakota's only professional wrestling event when WWF Champion Harley Race headlined a show at Eastern Airlines Arena which drew attendance of over 15,000 people!
