In 1916, however, when North Dakota became a statehood movement state, many people decided to move here because it would be their new home. As a result of this decision, the population of Dickinson grew rapidly and within three years it had reached 20,000 residents! The growth continued through the 1930s until World War II caused a decline again due to wartime shortages of resources like food and materials necessary for war production. However, following World War II there was an increase back into population as more people found jobs here after returning home from serving in wars all around the world! Today's community is built on its heritage as one of America's most agricultural counties with significant industry including farming (agriculture accounts for about 60% of total job output) and construction/real estate services (accounting for almost 10%).
On July 1, 1889, Dickinson became the 36th state in the United States. The area that is now North Dakota was surveyed by Pierre Mallet in 1867 and it was included in the Dakota Territory until it was admitted into the Union as a state on November 3, 1907.
