Wilson was founded in 1824 by a group of Scots-Irish farmers and their families who had emigrated to the area from County Antrim, Ireland. The town was named after General John C. Wilson, a Confederate general during the American Civil War. By 1830, Wilson boasted two stores, four homes (one owned by Governor James Kenedy), five churches (threeMethodist) and six schoolhouses; all of which were used for public education purposes at that time. These successes led Wilsons citizens to form a board of directors in 1835 which chose name “the Town Committee” for fear that other settlements would take away their land if they did not have something resembling an urban core or central government entity within their communities). In 1838-39, developers began construction on what would become known as Wade Park – one of Wilson’s most significant streets today because it links many of its key commercial districts together: Wade Market (on Main Street), Cookes Ferry Landing (between US 421 & I-95), Central Ave., Southside Shopping Center (off US 421), West Side Shopping Center (near I-95) and downtown along High Street between Elm & Tryon Streets). This project saw heavy investment by businessmen interested in creating an infrastructure designed specifically for industrial production along I-95 corridor; it also marked another step towards Wrightwood’s status as an important commercial center throughout southeastern North Carolina during this period Despite these accomplishments however, Wade Park never reached full capacity due in part to lack of funding - until 1862 when NC Railway Company construction began concurrent with efforts by NC Senate President Tryon Stephenswick Sr., Jr.– then governor–to bring more traffic onto I-95 via Wade Park mainline roadway Phase One saw traffic increase from about 1K per day during 1862 peak up until 1880 whenNC Railway Company closed down line entirely;Phase Two saw increased traffic through park but also increased expenses associated with maintaining large facility including trackage rights thru park . Results showed too much demand without additional transportation link so railway company reopened main line bypassing Wade Park altogether in 1886 . Wilson was born in 1827, the son of a Lutheran minister. He attended college at Wake Forest and then became an Episcopal priest. In 1860, he married Anna Maria Hill (1824-1910). They had two children: Wilson Jr. (1861-1944) and Anna Roosevelt (1863-1945). From 1865 to 1868, he served as bishop of Charlotte; from 1888 to 1890, he was president of the United States; and from 1901 to 1909, he was governor of North Carolina.
