The town was founded in 1865 by John Wilson and his wife, Nellie. It was named after General Ulysses S. Grant, who had served in the Union army during the American Civil War. They first settled in Yorktown Heights, New York before moving to what is now Wilson County in 1865. In 1870, the Wilson family purchased lands east of present-day Morgan City from Daniel Boone II for $2,000. The town of Wilson began developing rapidly soon after its founding. By 1880, it had a store, schoolhouse and two churches—one Methodist and one Baptist—all built with money provided by John Wilson himself or through donations from other citizens. The community also developed a few businesses such as an inn and blacksmith shop before becoming home to many farmers and laborers who worked on local tobacco plantations during the late 19th century. In 1907,Wilson established itself as an independent township within North Carolina’s newly formed state government following ratification of the US Constitution by the NC General Assembly that year. This move generated significant public support as it marked another step forward for what would become one of America’s most historically vibrant towns – still bustling with commerce today despite having only 1,500 residents! In 1916 (just two years after its establishment),the township became part of Pope’s Valley Township which included much larger Johnston City within its boundaries but maintained close cultural ties with Wilson throughout! Throughout these years there were continuous efforts made by both state governments and individual citizens alike to keepWilson thriving – culminating finally in its incorporation into North Carolina as a fully fledged city/borough on November 3rd OF 1945! Today little remains but peaceable quiet once again shrouding this sleepy corner of eastern North Carolina; yet it continues to thrive thanks largely to continued resident resolve!

It also experienced several natural disasters such as floods that struck in 1903 and 1969. Wilson currently has a population of around 350 people living on four square miles (10 km²). The economy is primarily agricultural with some manufacturing activities conducted within the community. Wilson is known for its Presbyterianism religion which helped shaped its society into one based on work ethic rather than luxury or leisure pursuits. Most notable leaders from Wilson have gone on to lead other towns/cities throughout North Carolina during their careers including James Witherspoon who served as Governor of North Carolina from 1828-1834, William Gaston who was Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 1875-1877, and Jimmy Carter who was elected President of the United States in 1980.
Wilson was a small town in Durham County, North Carolina until the early 1800s. It was located on the banks of the Yadkin River, about two miles west of what is now Interstate 95. The town was disbanded in 1827 and its residents moved to nearby Durham.
