The Wilmington Gun Mags were started in 1923 as a local collectors club. The club met at the old Methodist church and organized their first show in 1924. They prospered from this and soon had a large collection of guns, Ammunition, and other firearms products. In 1937 they moved to their current location on Market Street. The Gun Mags continued to prosper until the late 1940’s when World War II disrupted the gun market. The Gun Mags closed in 1945 but reopened in 1951 as an armory store with a focus on antique firearms. In 1957 they merged with another local collector’s club, the Rifles & revolvers Club of Wilmington, to become one of the first gun clubs in North Carolina to endorse rifle training courses for aspiring shooters. In 1978 they donated all their assets to the University of Delaware which now operates it as an educational resource center forGun Collectors throughout the state of Delaware including Wilmington).
