Gunlocks areone of the oldest types of firearms locking devices extant, dating back to at least 1847 when they were first used by Wilmington Manufacturing Company (WMC).locketsshouldbefittedtoagunsuchasAthleticRevolver(1857),Percussion Hammer Gun(1868),andHammer Gun(1871). WMC also created an early Throwing Knife Lock (1881) which could be attached directly to a belt or waist band as opposed to being hung from a peg on the side of the rifle or pistol grip like other lock designs at that time. The earliest guns fitted with gun locks were percussion hammer guns such as the Athletic Revolver (1857) and Percussion Hammer Gun (1868). These type of guns used two hammers that would be hit together, causing them to rotate around an axis which heldthelock in place. Other early gun lock designs included those utilizing anvils or pegs that could be attached directlyto belt loops or waistbands; thesepegswereusuallycalled“Throwing Knife Locks” due to their abilitytoattachdirectlytothebeltorwaistbandratherthanhangingfrompegonsideofthegungriplikeotherlockdesignsatthattime.(SeeFigure 1.) With increasing production rates and corresponding demand for firearm security systems, manufacturers began designing new lock models specific t o meet specific needs thereby creating what is now known as “gun locker series”(see Figure 2.). Some examples include: - 1903 Springfield Armory's Patent locked breech loader Model A - this model featured advanced features such as dual triggers/fire selector switch and SureFire sights - this design became popular due t he fact that it allowed users t o select fire without having t heir hands reach inside the weapon - Beretta's Masi Model 9 - this model featured a knurled thumbwheel on top of its sleeve that allowed users ti select either manual fire OR automatic fire while holding th e weapon against their body - Ruger 10/22 " standard" chambered in .22 LR - this model enjoyed widespread popularity due t he fact that it incorporated several innovative features such as ambidextrous magazine release button and butt rest

The area now known as Wilmington was settled by English colonists in the early eighteenth century, and became an important town after its foundation. Henderson's Ferry landing initially served as a transportation hub for goods moving between North Carolina and South Carolina, but this function gradually turned into shipping and trade with Europe. Wilmington was one of several cities that developed along the Albemarle Sound waterfront during this time. By 1825, Wilmington had become one of America's most prosperous seaports, based on its shipping activities and access to rich resources such as coal, timber, salt water fisheries, and slaves. Afterward, however, its economy declined due to increased competition from other ports in the region. However, Wilmington continued to be an important cultural center throughout much of this period; in particular, it played a significant role in developing American abolitionism.
