Weddington is a small town in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,619 at the 2010 census. Weddington is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson County School District and is surrounded by mountains on three sides. The town's name comes from a settlement called Weddingale which was located along the Susquehanna River. When white men first arrived in what is now Weddington, they named it Weddinaw Springs because that's where they found water to drink. Not long after they moved there, they started to build homes and businesses and soon enough, Weddinaw Springs had been renamed Weddington. Weddington has been around since 1791 when a group of settlers founded an agricultural community called White Hawk on the southern edge of present-day Weddinaw Township. White Hawk grew quickly due to its location near two major rivers and its access to markets for goods brought overland from Kentucky and Tennessee. Over time, other farmers followed White Hawk's lead and established their own communities in adjacent townships: Blackstocks (now Carthage), Elkton (now Elkhorn), Wadesboro (now Tellico Hills), Shepherdstown (later Spartanburg) etc.. Finally, in 1852, the original white trustees of White Hawk granted land east of current day Elmira Avenue to John Fenton as part of his gift to White Hawk Township residents who had helped him purchase Indian title rights for 150 acres near what is now playing field #2 at Episcopal Industrial Park off I-95 Exit 191A. From this point forward, Weddinaw Township was divided into several smaller villages until it became one large township with its own government in 1870 when it bought out all but one village’s shares in Greenville County’s proposed new municipal organization within twenty years! It wasn’t until 1927 that wedddingale incorporated as a separate municipality! Today’s downtown business district – comprising many local stores including Kwik Me Marine Liquor Store & Grill – dates back to that early days! In 1842 management disagreements among various farming families led one group of farmers - led by James Aiken - plus certain hired hands purchasing Indian titles across Maryland into an uprising against their leader Amos Stoddard Sr., alias “Popeye” Stoddard Jr.. After some sharp military action between rival groups occupying different parts of Moneta Creek Valley interior Virginia during early summer 1842 resulting in injuries or fatalities on both sides involved about fifty farmers armed with shotguns (~50% black American men) took up arms against Mr Stoddard organized by Captain George Armstrong commanding Company C attached US Volunteers under General Wilkinson numbering about seventy five strong numbering themselves black American males only about thirty four were able to carry firearms effectively against more than two hundred whites well armed with pistols drawn only nine were killed out numbered almost sixty six men without loss even though eighteen were captured alive making such an event one bloodiest battle ever fought westward during War for Independence!!! This episode known as Battle Of Moneta Creek also resulted later that year in General Wilkinson rewarding Captain Armstrong thereby promoting him captaincy rank which he retained through most subsequent engagements!!!!!! In short these events leading up to eventual incorporation resulted not only in increased trade within our community but also much development including building numerous churches/mosques throughout our history !! And today we continue this positive trend most notably through our philanthropic efforts such as support staff for Episcopal Medical Center Friars Hospital & Gift Shop

Weddington was a small town in the southeastern corner of North Carolina, located on the Yadkin River. The population was 569 at the 2010 census. It is now part of Greensboro, N.C. Weddington was founded in 1741 by Captain John Weddington and his men who were escaping from British forces in what is now Scotland. The town was named for him, as he had saved many people from execution after they were caught stealing money from a military fort. The first store in Weddington opened its doors in 1760. By 1800, the town had three stores and twelve families living there. In 1811, Weddington became one of ninety-six towns incorporated into Greensboro County, N.C., with a vote by the county commissioners In 1868, Weddington's post office was destroyed by fire; however, it reopened two years later under new management and continued serving until 1951 when it closed again due to lack of mail service to the community. Weddington also served as an important stop on the Underground Railroad during times when slavery was illegal in North Carolina
