The company name was changed to “Weddington Rifle Company” in 1812 after it relocated to a new location within town limits. During the Revolution, many soldiers who served in North Carolina lost their lives while fighting for independence from British rule. Many of these men left behind valuable firearms and ammunition caches along the state line. In order to remember these brave individuals and ensure that their legacy is perpetuated, several groups collected these artifacts over time and donated them to various museums across North America. One such group is called “The Regimentals” which includes weapons from battles fought during the Revolution including cannonsballers and musketsheeters . These cannonsballers were used by American troops as siege engines capable of demolishing enemy fortifications . In addition, many pieces of artillery equipment also ended up being donated to museums including three cannonballs that weighed 1 ton each! In 1912, a special committee was formed within The Regimentals consisting of retired Confederate officers named Edwin Moseley (president), Jno Suggs (vice president), Richmond Stephenson ( secretary) & Wm Ladd ( treasurer). They wanted to create an exhibit celebrating all things Confederate at an upcoming exposition held in Asheville , NC . To make this happen they gathered together all sorts of military hardware including old pistols & swords, cannons balled up with chain & nails etc., old uniforms & badges etc., some 20 items representing over 2 centuries worth of Confederate memorabilia! This exhibit became known as “The Armed Forces Museum Collection: A Century Of History” which toured through different towns throughout North Carolina before finally coming home to Weddinton on October 9th 1919 !!

The Weddington Rifle and Shotgun Historical Society was founded in 1922 by W.M. Weddington, a member of the North Carolina General Assembly who also served as its first president. The society currently preserves over ninety-five rifles and shotguns from Weddington dating back to 1881.
Weddington is a small town in Swain County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Asheville–Biltmore statistical area. Weddington was founded by parents of seven children who emigrated from Denmark in 1837. The first settler, Rasmussen Larsen, died in 1839 and his wife settled nearby with their six children. They named their land Weddington after Wedderburn House on Lumberton Creek where they were living when they arrived in America. A post office was established at Weddington in 1840, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The first school opened for students in 1842; wedgwood teacher Anna Sommers taught there for three years before moving to Hendersonville to take care of her elderly mother-in-law. A second school building was erected here about 1870 by Pastor Peder Olsen (1812-1872), a Lutheran clergyman who had come to serve as pastor of Weddington since its founding and had also helped build the original courthouse which stands today on Main Street across from the old Methodist church building which served as the town square until 1935. In 1902 another new school building replaced the older one; this one still serves as a public education institution today. A large sawmill built here by Jens Jensen (1793-1868) became an important local employer from around 1830 until it closed its doors permanently around 1930 due to technological advancements that made production more efficient and cost effective outside of Swedenborg County where it originated – something that did not happen with Danish mills located elsewhere within North Carolina during this time period! Weddington's lone store opened on Cherokee Avenue near US 11/1935; however, soon after it closed because of prohibitionism then rampant throughout much of America during those days! After World War II WW2 brought many changes including several waves of immigrants - most notably Poles who came during the early 1960s just prior to Communist rule over Poland - which necessitated various functions being shared between different institutions like schools and churches before finally becoming sole property ownership within Friars Academy annexing Weddington High Schoolstead Chapel Shopping Center adjacent thereto circa 1984/85 although some remnants remain extant evident even inside now only Recreation Department & Library Building relocated there1967 later!! Despite all these challenges recent progress has been made - especially given current demographics!!! With so much history present & going back so long - what could be Improved????? ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!
