Waynesville is a small town in the Pee Dee Valley of North Carolina. The population was 3,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Winston Salem metropolitan area. Waynesville was founded in 1792 by Sir Walter Raleigh and named for him. The first white settler in Waynesville was John Nash, who arrived in 1792. Nash's land was east of what is now Main Street and north of Presentation Road. He built a small cabin on his farm and named it Nash's Station.
