Waynesville is a town in McDowell County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Asheville–Buncombe metropolitan area. Waynesville is located on U.S. Route 20 and State Route 258, about north of Asheville and south of its larger neighbor Pisgah Forest. Waynesville's ZIP code 25390 is home to most of the community's businesses and residents. The first recorded settler in Waynesville was George Washington Hargrave, who arrived in 1775 with his family from Virginia. The present spelling of the name may be traced back to John Wayne Hargrave (1786-1868), one of several settlers who took up residency near what would become Waynesville after purchase from the Cherokee nation by Major General James Longstreet during the American Civil War (1861-1865). In 1876, General A. J. Stewart founded Stewart's Mills which became one of North Carolina’s leading flour mills throughout much of the 19th century due to its production techniques –slow milling followed by baking without kneading –and varieties such as large enough sacks for shipment that led to its nickname “the breadbasket”of Appalachia because so much wheat was grown thereabouts for export before fiber mills came on line later in that century). In 1923, Stewart’s Mills merged with Other Mills Company to form Other Mill Corporation whereupon it continued as One Hundred Fifty Three Corporation until it too merged into Allied Baking Industries Incorporated in 1984 following a management change at Allied Baking Industries effective November 1st, 1983 represented by Jerry Wills (1922-)….At One Hundred Fifty Three Corporation we were proud to have been building doughnuts since 1921 when our founder Mr….Cleveland made them available through mail order…..We are excited about our future as Allied Baking Industries Incorporation…..We are grateful for all that has happened during these many years including: Our employees; their families; our friends; past customers and followers throughout Appalachia….. Gun magazines have a long and varied history. They have been used for many purposes, the most common of which is to carry firearms. The first magazine was built in 1792 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte. It contained six rounds of ammunition and was used by the French military. In 1875, Colt began manufacture of pistols with revolving cylinders that held up to twenty rounds. This caused many gunsmiths to begin making their own magazines as well, leading to the development of the modern magazine-fed firearm. The first commercial magazine-fed firearms were made in 1903 by Browning & Wesson. They were called “Broomhandle” handguns and could hold ten rounds each. These guns were very successful, but they required reloading every time you fired them. This led to the development of self-loading pistols that could fire automatically based on how many rounds were inside the magazine (i.e., single shot pistols). The city experienced significant growth during the late 1800s and into the 1900s, thanks to its strategic location near the railroad and natural resources. Today, Waynesville is a small but thriving community with a rich history that remains relevant today.

In 1801, the town was renamed to honor General William H. Douglas during his military campaigns in the Revolutionary War. Waynesville continued to grow and become a major center of commerce and culture during its early years. By 1825, the population of Waynesville had reached 10,000 people. One of the most significant events in Waynesville's history occurred on July 4th, 1828 when a large crowd of residents participated in a parade celebrating American Independence. In 1865, Waynesville was incorporated as a city and experienced rapid growth due to its location at the crossroads of several important transportation routes. In 1870, it became one of the primary centers for black slaves in North Carolina after they were emancipated from slavery. By 1880, there were over 25 businesses located in downtown Wayesville. During this time period, there also developed a strong community spirit among these local citizens who worked together to make their city what it is today. In 1902, an oil well was discovered near Wayesville and quickly becoming one of the most important sources of revenue for the city. This led to increased development within downtown and throughout other parts of the city while also providing new opportunities for businesses and developers alike. In 1955, Mayor John Witherspoon designated Wayesville as America's "City on Lake" due to its importance as an economic center within our state borders. Today, DowntownWayesville remains an important focal point for both locals and visitors alike with its rich history and vibrant atmosphere
