Pistol hammers were even used in military rifle shooting competitions to break firing pins from rifles. Pistol hammers come in a variety of styles, including American (noise-cancelling), British (left-handed), French (beveled edge), German (U-shaped), Italian (angle-grind) and Spanish (Juguete type). The most common form of pistol hammer is the American Noisette style which is characterized by its short handle, small head, and wide faceplate. The early pistols were made with two hammers: one on each side of the frame. However, as pistols became more advanced, they began to be made with just onehammer - called the standard handgun hammer - which was mounted on an oar-like grip piece near the barrel breech. This allowed shooters to use their left hand while holding the firearm with their right hand using a comparatively simple technique known as "grip and shoot." Pistols without this standard handgun hammer typically use either a percussion lock trigger or striker fire mode; both are effective but have some drawbacks. Grip and shoot guns are especially useful when shooting targets outdoors because they allow you greater control over your aim than using traditional triggers/firers which tend to require too much strength from your left hand

Waynesville was founded in 1796 by a party of Henderson County pioneers, led by Colonel John Waynes. The town grew rapidly, and by 1815 it had become the largest settlement in the area. By 1870, Waynesville had reached its peak as an agricultural center and had become one of the most important towns in eastern North Carolina. However, during the late nineteenth century, numerous factors caused Waynesville to decline: economic problems caused by new railroad construction; social unrest that developed from changes in agriculture; and natural disasters such as a devastating fire in 1894 that destroyed much of the town. In 1930, however, Waynesville recommenced growth and experienced another period of prosperity until World War II interrupted these trends. After the war ended,the town again declined as various businesses closed their doors; however, over time it has slowly regained its former prominence as an agricultural center and cultural center. In recent years there have been efforts to preserve Waynesville's history and culture through publications such as The History of Waynesville (published annually), Heritage Days events held each year on Mother's Day or Father's Day, and educational programs at local colleges and universities.
