In the early 1800s, Europe was in a state of upheaval. Napoleon had been overthrown and replaced by the more conservative Holy Roman Emperor, Joseph I. In response to this change, many Germans started arming themselves with pistols and muskets in an effort to protect their homes and property from French troops. The Carpenters' Convention of 1818 set out to regulate gun ownership in the newly formed United States. One of the main items discussed was how guns could be used safely for hunting and protection. As a result, laws were passed regulating gun use in Waynesville around this time. One such law regulated handguns into three categories: those that could only be used within a certain radius of someone who possessed a license (such as muzzleloading shotguns), those that couldn’t be fired at all (such as revolvers), or those that couldn’t be fired but must have an unloaded magazine inside it (like pistols). Waynesville is a city in Pickens County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 7,816 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Pickens County. Waynesville was founded in 1875 and named for General George Washington Pickens. Waynesville is located on State Route 123 east of Greenville and west of Columbia. The city was founded by Colonel John Swayne in 1875 as part of a larger area that became known as the Cherokee Nation after Chief Little Turtle's removal from his home in what is now Oklahoma Territory. Wagon trains carrying goods to and from Cherokee Nation villages stopped at Waynesville on their way northward along the then-railroadbed from Columbia to Memphis, Tennessee. At first there were only a few stores and residences, but over time more businesses opened up including a bank, livery stable, grocery store, post office, hotel and schoolhouse; all within short distance of each other on Main Street. By 1890 there were over 100 residents in Waynesville with its own hospital and jail which had been built following an 1876 raid by Confederate forces against local Unionists during the American Civil War (the raids were also conducted against Native Americans). In 1907 Waynesville become one of five cities established by the North Carolina Improvement Association (NCIA) as a result of railroad consolidation across the state into two dozen smaller companies; these larger concern towns would develop into large metropolitan areas such as Greensboro/High Point/Pine Bluff and Charlotte/Wilmington/New Hanover Counties before NCIA dissolution in 1960s. In 1912 Winton Ford Company started making Model T Ford cars at their factory on Main Street; this would become one of largest carmakers east of Mississippi until production relocated to Mexico City several years later when Ford discontinued manufacturing in that country too due to union organizing activities led by Teamsters unions during World War II (the Car models produced here continued be manufactured locally until 1992). In 1935 Waynesville installation new airport - First National Airport - serving both town residents and outlying rural areas; it remains operational today as Greater Greeneville Regional Airport though some passenger service has been converted back to small regional airports throughout much of East Carolina since its establishment seventy years ago! In 1945 Ashley Furniture began producing radios under contract from Ustashe Radio Corporation who began marketing them nationally; Ashley continues operations today under different ownership however products remain branded “Ashley Radio” through major retailers nationwide! In 1957 Drury Manufacturing Company moved their Operations from Forest City NJ to Waynesville NC concentrating on typesetting paper for printing lookingglass display cases molding mirrors etc.; company still operates outof facility currently employing around 75 people! In 1965 Presbyterian Church planted anew church - First Baptist Church - Prior Meeting House being completed just prior to dedication ceremonies taking place October 10th 1966! In 1876, Waynesville became part of Charlotte County when it was created from parts of Davidson and Mecklenburg counties. The next year, the county seat moved to Charlotte. In 1902, Charlotte County merged with Buncombe County to form new North Carolina (NC) statehood. During World War II, many businesses closed due to wartime shortages of materials and labor. However, Waynesville continued to grow as an industrial center until the late 20th century. In recent years, Waynesville has seen strong growth in retail and commercial sectors due to its proximity to Interstate 85 and other major highways
