The first expansion of the Wake Forest University mountaineering community was in the early 1960s when an addition to the campus was made available for use as a ski resort. In 1966, a new mountaineering club was started at Wake Forest and it soon became popular among students and faculty alike for its challenging climbs and opportunities to explore the surrounding mountains. The club continued to grow throughout the years and by 1984 had developed into what is now known as The Mountain Club. In 1992, Wake Forest added a new facility on their campus which became home to both Climbing Hall and Mountaineering Hall. These two Halls served as an incubation ground for future mountain climbers at Wake Forest until 1995 when they were moved to Wolf Creek Resort in Vermont. Since then, many other students have come to learn about mountaineering from our staff members at Climbing Hall and Mountaineering Hall. In 2013, we opened our newest climbing gym - The George Washington Inn Climbing Gym - on site of our old Mountaineering Hall which has helped us continue growing our climbing program even further! We are excited to help people learn more about climbing while enjoying some amazingmountains around town!
