Thomasville is a town in Rutherford County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 9,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Rutherford County. The town was founded by settlers from Virginia in 1824 and named for General Thomas Ewing, who had fought in the American Revolutionary War. One of the first tasers was invented in 1984 by inventor and manufacturer Jim Beavers as part of a research project into new gun technologies for law enforcement use. Beavers' taser has been used extensively by law enforcement agencies around the world, most notably in the United Kingdom where it enjoys strong popularity. Thomasville is a town in Cherokee County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charlotte–Mecklenburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Thomasville were surveyors working for the British East India Company. They named their new station "Cherokee Ford," after the Cherokee Nation's capital, Washington D.C., but no one lived there because of malaria and other diseases brought over by Bobcats on horseback from Georgia and Alabama during that time period. A group of men led by Captain John Underhill journeyed through this area in 1781 when they were scouting out a route to Johnston's army besieging Charleston, South Carolina. Underhill found a large body of water near where present-day downtown Thomasville stands and called it "Cherokee Ford." He built a small cabin here and named his settlement "Underhill's Station." In 1784, an act was passed Congress providing for land grants to be made available for Settlements in virgin North Carolina which included Thomasville. The grantees selected Colonel William Tryon as their agent to negotiate with the Cherokees about receiving these lands which he did successfully do within five years; however little practical development took place until after General Andrew Johnson's Ulysses S. Grant Expedition arrived in 1828 successively occupying all east Tennessee (excluding settlements) up through 1835 before finally giving way to Indian Removal policy implemented by General Sherman following the Battle of Haltom Creek on May 9,1865 finalized by General Joseph Easley on July 3 as follows: In 1830-31 Tryon also negotiated with local Creeks over Treaty rights near what are now Highland Park Golf Course and Coxegee Resort developments; these negotiations failed so efforts continued at peace only through 1836-38 when hostilities recommenced between Indians & whites over hunting grounds some 20 miles north of town center & along both Big Sandy Creek & Small Sandy Creek Rivers (& nearby plantations) culminating in Raids against Plantations Spring Valley Residence Ltd gentrifying area since 1800s

Thomasville is a small town located in Randolph County, North Carolina. The population was 2,527 at the 2010 census. Thomasville is one of the few remaining communities in Randolph County that was founded before the founding of Raleigh, NC. Thomasville was first settled by Scots-Irish immigrants who arrived in 1788. The community was named for Colonel John Thomas, an early settler and Revolutionary War hero. In 1803, Captain James Fenton established a store and tavern on what is now site of the First Baptist Church. By 1810, Thomasville had a school and two churches. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson assigned Lieutenant Colonel Israel Putnam to build a road from Charlotte to Raleigh through Randolph County. This road became known as the Putnam Road and later became I-85. In 1865, Confederate General Pee Dee Winn surrendered at Appomattox Court House in Virginia after his army was routed by Union forces under General Robert E Lee. After the war ended, many of these Scottish-Irish immigrants moved northward into new states such as Pennsylvania and Ohio. Some returned to Scotland while others continued to work northeastward into North Carolina until they were finally absorbed into English speaking populations when those states joined the United States in 1907. Today most residents of Thomasville are descended from these original Scots-Irish immigrants who arrived during or after World War II. Today, many businesses around town are still owned and operated by descendants of these early settlers including Joe's Drive-in hamburger restaurant which has been open since 1951; Olde Hickory Brewery which operates three restaurants throughout central North Carolina; Tommy's Tavern where various types of food are served all day long; The Good Shepherd CatholicChurch which dates back to 1875; Christmastime candy stores like William Hines' Candy Store (now closed) and Dutch Bros' Christmas Tree Shop (closed); local buses service this small town with stops at both schools (First Baptist Church & Community High School) as well as downtown Thomasville where there is also a movie theater (the Spectrum).
Thomasville was founded in 1785 by Capt. John Thomas and his wife, Susannah. The town was named after General Nathanael Greene, who helped lead the American Revolutionary War. The Thomasvilles were one of the first white families to live in what is now Thomasville. In 1825, they moved to nearby McDowell County and continued to grow rich farming crops and raising livestock until the 1860s when a railroad arrived and ruined their economy.
