Thomasville is home to the world’s largest gun Trigger Museum. The museum has been in operation since 1987 and preserves the history of triggers, firearms, and ammunition. The museum features more than 150Trigger-related items, including old guns and trigger mechanisms from around the world. The museum is open every day except Wednesday from 9am to 4pm. Admission is free for everyone older than 12 years old. There are also numerous exhibits on display, including an exhibit on handguns and rifles. In addition to learning about triggers and firearms, visitors can also visit the Gunsmith Shop to buy or rent trigger parts or accessories.

The town was founded by George Catlett in 1798 as part of his tract of land granted to him by King George II of England. Johnston donated all of his property within the limits of the town to create Johnston College which still exists today as one of America's leading universities. A post office called Catlettville was established in 1837 and changed its name to Thomasville in 1883. Thomasville experienced significant growth following World War II as a result of its proximity to military installations andthe creationof numerous new jobs in defense manufacturing and engineering. The population peaked at 24,876 during the 2000 census but has been declining since then due largely to a loss of employment opportunities in those industries and other changes outside the community such as suburban growth around it
