Ammunition history in Thomasville, North Carolina began with the development of firearms in the early 1800s. The first firearms used shot fired from a bow or crossbow. Ammunition was also developed for cannons and rifles. In 1842, rifle ammunition was developed by Colonel Nathaniel Lyon of the Confederate Army and named after him. This new ammunition used black powder instead of powder made from lead and other metals. The following year, American forces moved into southern North Carolina to help defeat the Confederacy. As part of this effort, General John Fayette Bragg ordered his troops to destroy all existing military arsenals and stores of artillery ammunition in Thomasville. This operation was known as “the destruction of munitions”. The purpose of this action was two-fold; it destroyed any materials that could be used to make new rounds for enemy cannon, as well as destroyed any stockpiles of munitions that might have been hidden away. In 1865, Union forces invaded southern North Carolina again during the Civil War. Once again, General Bragg ordered his troops to destroy all existing military arsenals and stores of artillery ammunition in Thomasville. This action was known as “the destruction of munitions” once again because it destroyed any materials that could be used to make new rounds for enemy cannon, but also destroyed any stockpiles that might have been hidden away within the arsenal buildings themselves

Thomasville is a town in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 8,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh–Durham Metropolitan Statistical Area. Thomasville was founded in 1792 by Revolutionary War captain and future U.S. Congressman John Pinkney and his wife Anna Tryon as a small plantation on the Yadkin River between what are today Huntersville and Chapel Hill. The Tryons named their new town after their friend and mentor, George Washington. In 1825, the town became a parish within Alamance County; in 1852 it became an independent municipality with its own government under a mayor-council system. The first post office in Thomasville was established on December 12, 1824; it was renamed Mechanic Falls on January 1, 1838. In 1860, Mechanicsburg replaced Thomasville as the seat of Alamance County government but continued to be used for mail operations until November 9th of that year when Mechanic Falls became the county seat again following an recommendation from Governor Arthur Cabell Tayloe Jr.. On July 1st of 1865, Mechanicsburg amalgamated with Thomasville to form one large community which would continue to exist as two separate municipalities even though they were technically part of one county until 1971 when Alamance County disbanded all its municipal units into individual counties due to budgetary reasons On October 14th 1921 local school board member Jack Neely proposed that the name "Thomasville" be given to what is now known as Union High School campus east of downtown Raleigh due to its proximity there and also because many people who lived here during prohibition had been forced out of their homes during this time In 1957 Teds Mills Intermodal Terminal opened up along I-95 just south of downtown Raleigh providing jobs for many people living right near where we stand today including myself
