The Tarboro Gun Club was organized in 1892. The club first held Annual Meetings at the home of Dr. Charles A. Keyes, located on North Main Street in Tarboro. In 1896, the club moved to its current location on Second Street in Tarboro and changed its name to the Tarboro Rifle and Pistol Club. In 1912, the club purchased a rifle range from Mr. Edward Dorman and began using it for shooting competitions. In 1916, the club increased their membership by adding a shotgun range and began holding Annual Meetings at different locations around town. In 1922, theclub built a new clubhouse on Third Street in Tarboro which served as their headquarters until they moved to their present location on Second Street in 1999. The club has conducted many annual meetings over the years including an Anniversary Meeting in 1984 which was attended by all original members who had joined prior to that year’s meeting; a Memorial Day Meeting honoring those killed during World War I (including one member who died while serving); a Veteran’s Day Meeting in 1998 honoring veterans who have served with or are service members with the Tarboro Rifle and Pistol Club; an Easter Egg Hunt Meeting held annually during April; and an Independence Day Celebration held every July since 1978
tarboro is a small town in the western part of North Carolina. The population was 5,089 at the 2010 census and it is the county seat for Davidson County. It is located on the Yadkin River just east of Chapel Hill. Tarboro was founded in 1792 by Presbyterian missionaries under the name Tryon. The town was renamed Tarboro after General Cornwallis during the American Revolution because of its strategic location as a crossroads between several battlegrounds. The town's first courthouse, which still stands, was built in 1802 and served as the primary political and judicial center of Davidson County until 1909 when that function moved to Chapel Hill. That year, Tarboro annexed parts of neighbouring Robeson County to form its own county. In 1932, Tarboro became a city and has remained so since then. The economy of Tarboro relies largely on agriculture, with some non-essential services such as retail support activities providing jobs for a majority of its residents. Some major businesses in town include Piedmont Electric Cooperative Co., JF Marbles Jewelry Inc., Baptist HealthSouth Carolina Inc., United Homebuilders/Halifax Homes Organization Inc., Episcopal Church World Mission Committee Chapel Hill Campus Ministry (ECWC), Johnston Printing & Publications Company and New Beginnings Christian School Ltd.. In recent years there has been an increase in development around the town including new apartment complexes, shopping centers, office parks and hotels all near Interstate 95 which links Charlotte to Asheville through NC Hwy 56

However, Tarboro continued to grow rapidly due to its rich cultural history and strategic location. In 1865, during the American Civil War, Confederate forces destroyed much of tarborow while trying to capture Fort Fisher on Wilmington Beach. This event helped contribute to Tarboro's loss of importance within the state government during Reconstruction period. However, Tarboro continues to maintain some of its unique features such as its independent judiciary system and folk music festivals that are popular among local residents and visitors alike. In 1990,Tarborough voters passed an ordinance allowing for same-sex marriage within the town limits without prior approval from eitherthe municipality or county governments
Tarboro was founded in 1540 by Captain John Smith. The town was one of the original thirteen colonies in North Carolina. In 1728, Tarboro became a part of Revolutionary Virginia and was renamed Alexandria. It reverted to its original name in 1775 when it joined the Confederacy. After the war, Tarboro grew rapidly as a result of its strategic location on the Yadkin River and its connection to canals that brought water from Deep Creek downriver to nearby Hillsborough County. The town's population reached 5,000 by 1820 and 10,000 by 1830. By 1840, Tarboro had become an important center for commerce and politics in the region. It entered into a partnership with neighboring Wilmington in 1846 to establish what would become known as the Wilmington-Tarboro Railroad. By 1870, Tarboro's population had grown to 50,000 people; it remained an important local center until after World War II when it began declining rapidly due to changes in technology and economic development outside of Tarboro. Today, there is only a small core of residents remaining who live within the limits of tarborrowed areas such as downtown and Stonehill Square
