In 1828, Major General Nathaniel Banks founded Fort Fisher on Wilmington Island in Wilmington Delaware as part of his strategy to stop British forces from entering American shores during the War for Independence. During this time period, cannons on fortifications were replaced by muzzleloaders because cannon could not be sustained against repeated attacks over long periods of time without being exhausted or destroyed. In 1829, Captain James Hogg organizeda team which developed what is now called an upland shotgun which fires shot up into the air instead of down onto targets below as with other types guns such as rifles and pistols

Tarboro, North Carolina is a small town in the state of North Carolina. The population was 1,764 at the 2010 census. Tarboro is located on the Yadkin River and is part of Raleigh-Durham metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1784 by Scots-Irish settlers who named it for their home village of Tarbert on Iona Island in Scotland. The first post office in Tarboro was established in 1814. The town has a rich history that includes significant moments from both its founding until the present day. One such moment happened when General John Forbes ordered his men to surround and burn down the home of local Mennonite preacher Elijah Hogg on December 5, 1785 following an altercation over worship services at a nearby Baptist church. Hogg had earlier refused to attend services because he did not believe that God would allow atoms to combine to form molecules other than water and air. This event helped solidify Tarboro's reputation as a religious center within the region and helped spur development within the community over time. In 1827, American Revolutionary War veteran Colonel Nathaniel Greene arrived in Tarboro with his family after briefly living in Virginia City, Nevada during their military service there as part of Operation Mohawk. He soon became popular among locals for his charitable work within the community including providing food for soldiers stationed nearby along with building new churches and schools throughout Tarborough while also caring for sick and injured soldiers on call during battle times or through winter months when transportation was difficult to find or accessible. In 1851, George Washington Carver arrived in Tarboro followed by his wife Sarah Leland Carver two years later after moving from Alton, Illinois where they had grown up together circa 1820s during Quaker missionary work near Lancaster County Pennsylvania called Germantown Awakening which began circa 1800s across United States leading up to First Great Awakening period starting about 1830s across UPNates In 1865 local farmer James Mcknight donated more than twenty acres (10 hectares) surrounding what is now downtown Tarboro to be used as a school ground for black students attending public schools run by white teachers under State Laws at that time following Reconstruction era ended following Civil War era which started about 1861 During Reconstruction period tarborough residents successfully lobbied state government to provide financial assistance via Low Income Housing Tax program which housed Ebenezer Howard House which opened late 1850s near what is now University of South Carolina Chapel Hill campus Aftermath of Civil Rights Movement led Local African American Pastor Rev Dr Cawley Jacklin started preaching here beginning early 1960s againstgregation laws enacted during Jim Crow era starting around 1915 until eventually city council passed ordinance banning segregation beginning 1964 .) Later Municipality formed comprising parts of Johnston County - Durham County - Wake Forest County - Cabarrus County - Buncombe County forming Combined Authority effective October 1st 1971 . Mayor became removable effective December 1st 1974 . Effective January 4th 1975 TownName change from "Tarborough"
